The peak of the tent is supported on a pad 14 carried on a plate 15 which is in turn supportedaon two angularly disposed poles 16. .The poles are provided I at their one extremity with ferrules 27 which carry tongues 28. A pivot pin 17 passes through andsecures the tongues 28 to the plate 15. Flanges 2 1 are formed on the plate 15 to limit the spread of the poles 16.

.Metallic angle sockets 18 are afiixed to the :other extremities of the poles 16, the angle of the sockets corresponding to the angle between the sides and I the top of the :cover 10.x The side poles 19 are arranged to fit within the open extremities of the angle sockets 18 and rest, at their lower extremities, in tent stretchers 9. 'The tent stretchers are more fully described and claimed in a co-pen'ding application bearing Serial No. 712,681, filed May 12, 192 1, and comprise a dog 32 which engages notches 33 on the tentpole and holds the pole at any desired height. For erecting the tent an erecting pole 22 is provided. The erecting pole 22 carries at one extremity a ferrule 29 provided with a slot 23. The pivot pin 17 on the plate 15 carries a groove 25 for engaging in the slot 23ofythe erecting pole.

The erecting pole 22 is connected to the plate 15, by means of the slot 23 and pivot pin 17, and the pad 14: is placed at the peak point of the cover 10. The tent is now raised and supported by the erecting pole 22 as indicated in broken line in Fig. 2. The side poles 19 are now inserted in the angle sockets 18, placed in their proper positions at the sides of the tent, and raised in the tent stretchers 20 until the proper tension has been placed in the tent cover 10. This raising of the side poles results in raising the pivot pin 17 from the slot 23 and releasing of the erecting pole 22. The straps 21 are now secured around the side poles 19 and the tent is ready for use. The erecting pole may now be used if desired as one of the awning poles for supporting an awning in front of the tent.

When collapsed the poles 16 are turned upon the pivot pin 17 so as to lie parallel with each other as shown in Fig. 4. An opening 26 is placed in the plate 15 which may be used for supporting a lantern in the tent. The flanges 24, when in contact with the poles 16, act to maintain the pad 14 directly over the center or pivot point.

A pin 3e projects above the pad 14 and engages in an eyelet opening at the exact peak point. of the tent. The pin 84 facilitates the locating of the pad 14 at the peak point during the erecting operation. The pad contacts with the tent around the eyelet opening and prevents any leakage at this point.

lVhile a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired and understood that the same may be varied within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patents is 1. Means for supporting a tent of the type having an angularly depending top and relatively steeper depending side walls comprising: poles pivoted together at the peak of said tent and extending downward at an angle substantially parallel to said top and intermediate the corners of said tent; other poles arranged to be aflixed to said first poles and extending downward at an angle substantially parallel to and on the center line of said side walls and a series of interconnecting poles upheld by said other poles and adapted to surround said tent substantially at the intersection of the top and side walls thereof so as to support the corners of said tent.

2. A four sided tent comprising a top depending from a peak; side walls depending from said top at a relatively steeper angle; top poles pivoted together atthe peak of said tent and carrying a support for said peak said top poles extending downward at an angle substantially parallel to said top and intermediate the corners of said tent; side poles detachably secured to said top poles and extending downward at an angle substantially parallel to, and along the center line of, two of said side walls and means extending to each side of each of said poles for holding said tent separated at the line of intersection between said top and said side walls and supporting the remaining two side walls.

3. A tent comprising a top depending from a peak; side walls depending from said top at a relatively steeper angle; pockets on the exterior at each side of said tent along the line of intersection between said top and said side walls; hip poles in said pockets and detachably connected to each other at the corners of said tent: top poles pivoted to each other at the peak of said tent and extending downward substantially parallel to said top and side poles detachably secured to said top poles and extending downward substantially parallel to and along the center line of the side walls of said tent and means for securing said pockets to said poles.

4. Means for supporting a rectangular tent of the type having an angularly depending top and relatively steeper depending side walls comprising: poles secured together at the peak of said tent and extending oppositely downward substantially parallel to said top; other poles arranged to be afiixed to said first poles and extending downward substantially parallel to said sides, all of said poles being in a vertical plane cutting two sides of said tent intermediate the corners thereof and means upheld by said poles for supporting the four corners and other two sides of said tent.

5. Means for supporting a four sided hipped tent comprising a pair of substantially vertical poles adjacent to and along the vertical center line of two: said sides and arranged to support the peak of said tent; a hip pole arranged horizontally across each of said vertical poles at the hip of said tent and supporting two of the tent sides and other hip poles carried by and connecting the extremities of said first hip poles and supporting the remaining two sides.
