:BOX FOR BCBBIN TRUCKS.
Application filed January 23, 1923. Serial No. 614,458.
side, and these frames are arranged in alleys as lclose together as possible to avoid waste space.
before the frame is started, each spindle is equipped with an empty` bobbin, and` when these are filled it is necessary to stop the frame and remove the filled bobbins. In practice, it is found easiest to remove the filled bobbin and replace it with an empty bobbin at the same time, in preference to removing all the filled bobbins and then going back over the ground with empty bobbins.
For convenience, one girl goes along the line ot spindles leaving empty bobbins on` any convenient part of the frame and then,
going back, takes an empty truck t be tllled` ii'ith full bobbins and pushes this ahead of her. AAs she goes along she` removes the flyer, which she places on the top of the trame, then theV tull bobbin, which she throws into the truck, and takes an empty bobhin from those previously put on. the 'frame and puts it in place of the full bobbin. Behind` her follows another girl who takesV down the flyer, puts it in place and ties up the ends of theyarn.
On these frames, there is a top. shelf on which the flyers are placed, and below this and under the roving is another shelf which is (he only available space where the empty bobbins can be placed. In4 putting these empty bobins in between the strands of rapidly-moving roving and taking them out, there is great danger ot lneaking the` roving, and as the bobbins are not clean the roving picks up ily and other impurities making uneven yarn.
The purpose of myinvention is to provide a box 'for empty bobbins which can be attached to the truck for carrying the full bobbins in such a way and of such construe tion that it is not necessary to put the empty bobbins on the shelf in advance of they others entirely empty are traveling around to different parts of the mill, it is desirable that my box should be detachable and of such construction and weight that a woman or girl can move it around from one truck to another. V
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation showing part of a Vfly, roving or slubbing frame and part of the alley between it and the adjoining frame, with a truck having one of my boxes attached' in the alley.
Fig. 2 is a perspective elevation of a truck with my preferred form of boX attached.
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. l is a view from one end or side of my bei: with the front of the cover for the mechanism removed.'
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail showing the pulley, flexible member and grooves.
Fig.- 6 is a perspective showing another modification of my box as applied to a dii'- terent type of truck. i
In the drawings, M represents what may be. a roving frame or a spinning frame which has two rows of spindles 10, 10 which carry the removable flyers 11, 11 and the bobbins 12, 12.Y
The roving R passes down underneath cover 16 and above beam 17 vbetween the rollers 15, 15, and is divided into two lines 13 and y14 each one of which passes into the top of a flyer such as 11 and 11.
In the ordinary doiiing of these frames, full bobbins, such as 27, are `thrown into the truck A, while the dotfer, as she moves along, lifts oli' flyers 11 and places them on the cover for the drawing rolls 16, as shown at 19, after having previously passed down the line and inserted empty bobbins, such as 18,.on the roller beam 17. It is obvious that these bobbins 18, as shown by the dotted lines, must be passed.. between the rows oi roving 13 and 13, or 13 and 14, and as these are not over two inches apart they are likely to be struck` when placing the bobbin on the shell and when removing' it. Y
The truck, such as A, has the sides 20, 21, back 22, front 23, floor 24, middle wheels '25 and front and back wheels 26, 26, all of well known construction.
' that "the vdeptho' 'box B shouldfbe two -feetk or more in order to carry the necessary .number oi empty bo'bbinsand in order` t0 "aveid the "necessity of Vafdoiier 'leaning over, llind itne'cessary toprovide a alsebottom lsuspen'ded onilexible members 3'7 and 38 which pass over pulleys 4:2 and'l3,each 'placed 'atthe top on [an end 30 or 31, preferably, in 'a 'groov'e l36, through which fgroove a 1nem'ber37 or 38 passes, thence lbeing attached to the false bottom.
The otherend'ofeach flexible member 3T and38 isattached'to a grooved pulley, such as51'or52, carried bythe end of shaft 50 `which extends through the box.
At one end of this shaft is a 'ratchet wheel `which turns with the shaft and with the :lo K4'pulleys i '51 and 52. y
As a means of operating` the ratchet, shaft, -and pulleys, l 'prefer .to provide a driving paw-l 70, in engagement with the "rztchet lwheel, pivotedj-at 7 y1 to the Loo't 'lever F and yat"72 =to "a rod'73 supported in a Vbearing 76 attached 'to A` foot lever F l and lhaving a 'c'ollar'l''e between which fand 76 isa cem'pressionspring 75 which :normally leeps the -p'awl :and ratchet in engagement..
The end of rod 73 .is lnormally in position directly in front oit the swinging end 8l ot release leveri L.
Foot lever F is looseon shaft l50, which 'serves asa pi'vdt and fhas a pedaljT which 1kextends outside lthe box, as shown in Fig.'2, within convenientreaeh ofi 'the operatrs iffoot. A'ieturning spring S attached to box d3 rit-34 and to pedal at 85 normally keeps "the pedal' raised, ready to be depressed sby the foot at will when it is vdesired to wind 'up the lflexible 'meinbers and 38 on the pulleys 51 aindjQ. also provide a 'check paivl `6() pivoted vto 'the box B at 61 and "having a tail pivoted'a't 62 tofa release rod 63' which passes through the vbearing [66 attached to 'the box. f This 'checlpai'vl also has a colla're between which"and-bearing G6 is a sprin'g65 whereby it normally keptY in engagement with ratchet wheel 53.
The release lever L projects up above the never "40 within convenient reach of the hand of the voperator, and 'is i'pivoted at Si) with its free end 8l in "such position that `wh'enlever L is pulled over to the back ii.
Y'disengages'both'ipawls'"GO and 70 allowing' the false bottom to drop by its own weight. vReturning spring S7 brings lever L back to position.
Tn `Fig. 6,"1 lshowV how my box B can be used with a truck, such as R, having ajliat top orf-floor 110 supported 'by middle wheels 111 and "end wheels .112 in a well known "manner: i My 'tbox ist-he same as shown iu Figgfbuthas an eye 113 on each side into which a hook 114` o'nthe 'truck 'can 'be forced so as vkto'hold 'itin place. This isk for the empty 'bobbins 'and is 'particularly useful yin the spinning room where, insteadbi a Ilarge box on wheels, such as A -in Fig. 2, severalfsmall light boxes, -such as l), l) shown in Fig. 6,' vcan be used. y For use in aspinning 'room where the -bobbinsare taken to looms,"it is vmore convenient Ito have suchbox'es P with handles A'115 df asize to jbe conveniently carried around 'and placed 'one atY each loom.
I claim:
21. 'The 'combination in a box lor empty bo'bbinjs, of rollersfat Vthe lbottom, `and means tonttach it to a truck, with a vertically slidtible-,al'se fbottom, and-means "for rais- 'ingiandlowering and j'for holding such Jfalse bottom in position, including a drive sha't't, lifting piilleysi'xed thereto, a ratchet wheel iixedto-said shaft,'a cheek pawl lin engagement'l'therewitln meansto throw such check pawl out of action, a driving pawl in engagement with llsaid ratchet wheel, foot op- 'erirble niea'us for ldperatin'g said `driving` `box,`"and :flexible members which pass over 'such pulleys Vand connect 'at one end with such l*fais'e""bo"ttom and at jthe other end 'with said lifting Ipulleys.
