Description
Patented June 2, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY L. ALLsPAw, or WEsT LAFAYETTE, INDIANA.
GAME.
Application filed April 9, 1923. Serial No. 630,895.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, I-IARRYL. ALLsrAw, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVest Lafayette, in the county of Tippecanoe and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Game, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an amusement device and more particularly to a game which has for its principal object to provide amusementfor youngsters ranging from the ages of about sinr to twelve years.
A particular object of the invention is to provide a simple apparatus which may be manufactured cheaply yet be durable and reliable.
The game is played similar to the ordinary game of basket ball but contemplates bringing the apparatus within the ability of the youthful both physically and financially. y
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the descrip tion progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. i
In the drawing- Figure l is a rear elevation of the apparatus,
Figure 2 is a top plan thereof,
Figure 3 is a perspective of the basket supporting device, and
Figure 4 is a detail section taken substantially on the line 4 4 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrow. Y
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the apparatus consists of a backboard and a basket supporting element mounted thereon.
The backboardwincludes.a frame l substantially rectangular in formation and provided on its rear faces at its corners with bu'ers 2. The top of the frame is provided with eye screws 3 so that the same may be hung upon nails or the like so as to lie against a wall, the buffers engaging the Wall so as to prevent injury thereto. A
. like.
hind the cover 4 and is preferably constructcover t is provided on ythe forward face of the frame and may be made of any suitable material suoli as boxboard, cardboard or the A beam 5 is secured in the frame beed of wood or some other suitable strong maallel abutting arms 7 which radiate outwardly therefrom and terminate in'the depending diverging legs 8 the terminals of which are provided with eyes 9. These legs 8 are disposed at right angles to the arms 7 and the arms 7 are disposed coplanar with the plane of the hoop 6. Bolts l0 secure the eyes 9 to the beam 5 and U-bolts 1l engage the legs 8 adjacent the arms .7 and secure them to the beam 5. Thus the basket holding device is properly braced and the mesh basket l2 is secured to the hoop 6 in the usual' manner.
The disclosure of my invention which I have made in detail herein relates only` to tlii preferred structurev thereof and it is to be understood that numerous changes may be made without departing from the scope of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof. I
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is In a game apparatus, a backboard, a basv ket `supporting device includ/ing a hoop, arms radiating from the hoop, legs depending from the arms and diverging from each other, `the extremity of the legs terminating in eyes, bolts passing through the eyes andk the backboard, and U-bolts passing through the backboard and engaging the legs adjacent the arms.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. HARRY L. ALLSPAW.
