Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOSEPH H. JENKINS AND ELIJAH W. JENKINS, OF LIBERTY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,96l, dated August 11, 1874; application filed October 11, 1873. 4
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH H. JENKINS and-ELIJAH W. JENKINS, of Liberty, in the county of Clay and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash -Boiler, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a front-end view of our improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through line as as, Fig. 1.
Similar'letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved apparatus, simple in construction, convenient in use, and efiective in operation, for boiling clothes, for washing, and for other uses.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A is a box consisting of two side boards and two end, boards, securely connected to each other, and provided with legs B, of such a length as to raise the machine to a convenient height. The lower part of the front end board is'cut away, to guard against its being set on fire from the fire-box. The box A is lined with, and its bottom is formed of, some suitable sheet metal, 0. The upper edge of the lining O is bent over the upper edge of the box A, and is secured to said box. D is the cover, to the lower side of which, near its front-and side edges, are attached flanges d, which fit into the mouth of the boiler A C. To the side edges of the cover D, near its rear edge, are pivoted the upper ends of the short rods E, the lower ends of which arepivoted to the sides of the box A. The pivoted rods Ethus serve as hinges to the cover D, and also enable it to be slipped forward after being turned back, so that its rear or hinged edge may project over the boiler A O, to conduct the water draining from the clothes back into said boiler. The forward and rearward movement of the pivoted rods E is limited by two stop-pins, 0, attached to the box A. The cover D, when turned back, is supported by an arm or bracket, F, detachably secured to the box A. The bracket F may be secured to the box A by a hook attached to it, and which hooks over abar, a, attached to said bar A.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the cover D, constructed as described, the pivoted rods E, and the detachable bracket F, with the boilerA E C, substantially as herein shown and described.
