Be it known that I, ERWINO. lVAnNnonrF, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county-of Cool: andState of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements inLaundry Tubs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to molded receptacles such as laundry tubs, sinks and the like, being directed particularly to the provision of an improvedmetallic rim therefor.
It has heretofore been the practice in the formation of metallic rims upon the walls of molded receptacles to place the rimin an inverted position in the mold iuwhich the receptacle is formed after which the con crete or other plastic substanceis poured in. The difficulty with this method is that the sections of the rim must be assembled within the mold and a great care taken to see that the several sections are properly set to make a continuous and relatively smooth surface at their meeting ends. This operation consumes considerable time, and even after the sections have been placed in their proper positions, there is no assurance that they will remain so placed. It is. therefore, the
primary object of my invention to provide a means whereby the various sections of the rim may be effectually secured together so that the complete rim may be placed bodily into the mold preparatory to pouring in the cement, without danger of alteration of the relation of the various sections.
A further object of the invention. is to furnish a rim of the character set forth which is so formed as to prevent tearing of clothes upon the corners thereof and which will present a scarcely perceptible joint between the sections.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a rim which will be held together by means independent of the molded walls of the receptacle and which will r add stability thereto.
With the above and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention comprises certain novel features of arrangement and construction of the various parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.

Referring specifically to the drawings, numerals 6 and 7 denote the meeting wall portions of one corner of the receptacle. Two of the rim sections are shown at 8 and 9, the latter section having its end positioned above the adjacent end of the section 8, and being cut on a miter 10 as best shown in Figs. 3 and 4: of the drawing. It will be understood that the mitered end 10 of the section 9 will fit snugly upon the top surface of the end of the other rim section 8. This mitered end 10 of the section 9 is pro vided with a pair of tongues 11 which are disposed obliquely with reference to the top surface of the rim section 8, and which are adapted to fit into correspondinglv arranged slots 12 in the section 8.
In assembling the rim prior to placing it in inverted. position in the mold. the several sections are fastened together. The tongues 11 upon insertion into the slots 12 will be bent under and flattened against the inner side of the adjacent section as best shown in Fig. 3. The rim section having been joined as just described, the rim will be placed bodily into the mold in inverted position and the cement poured. in. The inner and outer side walls'14 and 13, respectively, of each of the rim sections 8 and 9 are provided with inturned flanges 15, which latter are angularly disposed and serve to imbed themselves within the molded wall for maintaining the rim in place thereupon and for add ing rigidity to the structure as will presently As will be noted upon reference to Fig. 3, the inner edge of the side 14: of the mitered end of the section 9 abuts firmly against the side wall 14 of the other section 8. This construction serves to maintain the rim joint secure and operates to assist the tongues and grooves in lending rigidity to the structure.
The mitered edge will be rendered smooth as will the outer edges of the wall 13 at their meeting points. It will thus be seen by cutting the section 9 on a miter that the inner edge of the section 9 is so positioned that it will not extend above the section 8 and over to its outer edge where it would be likely to catch in the clothing of persons using the receptacle. 'This construction also operates as a saving of the metal for the rim.
Attention is especially directed to the fact that the section 8 has one end overlapped by the section 9 and the overlapped end of the section 8 is as illustrated in Fig. 3 flatly engaged with the outer side wall 13 of the section 9. The side walls 13 and 1 10f the section 8 may be also engaged by the outer flange 13 of the section 9 so that the parts are securely connected and are held against movement with relation to each other.
From the foregoing description read in connection with the accompanying drawing it is thought the novel features and advantages of my invention will be readily understood and appreciated. While I have described and illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that various slight changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the following claim.
1 claim: In a metallic rim for molded receptacles,
the combination with a metallic section having one end portion squared and provided with spaced obliquely extending openings, of a second section having one end extending obliquely and overlapping the squared end of the first section, the obliquely extending end of said second section being provided with tongues extending through said openings and bent back to securely connect the two sections, said sections having side walls provided with inturned flanges, the squared end of the first section and one side wall of the same being flatly engaged with the inner surface of one of the side walls of the second section. 1
