In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designated generally the hasp and the same comprises the front and rear portions 2 and 3 respectively. The front portion 2 is provided with an elongated slot 4 therein. the purpose of which will he presently described. The rear portion 3 forms a means for securing the hasp to the door A and any suitable fastening means such as is shown at 5 in the drawing is provided .i'or holding the rear portion 3-3 in a supported position. on the door. 'lhe adjacent ends of the front and rear portions are provided with intertittii'ig eye portions such as shown at 6 and the purpose of this construction will hereii'iatter he more fully described.

'..he arm 9 of the C-shaped locking meniher 8 is adapted to extend through the inter fitting eyes (3 termed on the adjacent ends of the front and rear portions respectively ot the hasp l and thereh provides a hinged connection tor the torward portion 2 on the rear portion 8. The arm 9 acts as a pintle t'or hoiding the front portion of the hasp in proper position with respect to the rear portion and permits the front portion of the hasp to swing; into and out of eng rapjement with the staple. The lower end of the arm 9 is disposed outwardly as shown at 10 and thence inwardly as illustrated at 11 to provide what I term as a handle. for actuating the locking member and the inner end of the inwardly extending portion 11 is disposed at right angles thereto and termii'ia-tes into the upwardly extending portion or lower free end 12 of the Gshaped looking member 8. The upper free end portion 13 terminates at a point spaced from the termination oi the lower free end and thereby provides means 14 through which is adapted to extend the staple '2' so as to perinit either of the end portions of the shaped member to be received within the staple.

Urdinarily with the haspdocks now in use, it frequently happens that the padlock usually employed for securing the hasp to the staple becomes lost and for the purpose of providing a temporary look, a sticker rod is bent around the staple over the hasp to prevent the opening thereof. By providing a locking means of the above mentioned character, and as further disclosed in the drawing, the use of sticks or pieces of wire as a temporary locking means is eliminated and furthermore the temporary lock comprising this invention may also be used in connection with the usual padlock, the emporary lock in no way interfering with the padlock.

The arm 9 of the Q-shaped locking member forms a pintle; for hingedly securing the front portion to the rear portion of the hasp and furthermore provides a. means for permitting the slidable D'lOVClllQDtof the locking member through the interlit-ting eyes 6 so as to enable the upper or lower free ends of the lock to be brought into or out of engagement with the hasp 7. With the parts arrangei'l as shown in Figure lot the drawing. the free end 13 of the lock 8 is disposed within the staple 7 and thereby provides a temporary lock for the beep. A collar such as is shown art-15 is formed or provided in any su table manner on the upper end of the arm 9 and will normally rest on the upper portion of the forward end of the rear portion 3. When it is desired to disengage the loch from engagement with the staple 7, the lock is released by lifting upwardly on the lock by means of the handle formed on the lower end of the arm 9 and designated by the numeral 16. The handle-is raised so that the arm 9 will move upwardly through the interfitting eyes and simultaneously disengaging the upper free end of the IS-shaped lock from engagement with the staple 7. so that the staple 7 will be in alignment with the opening or soace 14 formed between the respective ends of the lock. By

swinging the lock outwardly, the front portion :2 may then be disengaged from the staple so as to permit the opening of the door A. in the usual manner. A collar 17 similar to the collar 15 is supported on the lower end of the arm 9 to limit the upward movement of the arm with respect. to the interfitting eye formed on the adjacent ends of the front and rear portions of the hasp.

It will thus be seen from the foregoing desniption. that atemporary locking connection with a hasp has been provided whereby the hasp may be locked in engagement with th staple associated therewith and weaves invention and the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A fastening of the class described comprising a hasp, including front and rear portions, the rear portion being adapted to be secured to a door, the front portion having a lock formed therein for detachable engagement with a staple secured to the frame for said door, and a lock forming a hinge connection for the front and rear portions of said hasp and adapted for engagement with said staple.

2. A fastening of the class described comprising a hasp, including front and rear portions, the rear portion being adapted to be secured to a. door, the'front portion having a lock formed therein for detachable engagement with a staple secured to the frame for said door, a lock forming a hinge connection for thefront and rear portions of-said hasp and adapted for engagement with said staple, said lock comp-rising a substantially C-sha'ped member and means formed on said C-shapedniember providing a handle for actuating the same.

A fastening of the class described comprising va hasp, including front and rear portions, the'rear portion being adapted to be secured to aadoor, the front portion having aslot formed therein for detachable engagement with a staple secured to the frame for said door, a substantially C-shaped lock associated therewith, the arm of said C-shaped lock forming a hinge connection for the adj acent ends of the front and rear portions of the hasp. the upper and lower free ends of the I C-shaped lock being adapted for engagement-- withsaid stale, and a handle formed on said C-shapec member for actuating. the

portions, the, rear portion being adapted to be secured to a door, the adjacent ends of said portion having interfitting eye portions, said front portion having a slot provided therein for detachable engagement with a staple secured to the frame for said door, and a lock extending through the interfitting eye portions of said front and rear portions of the hasp forming a hinge connection therefor, said lock adapted for slidable engagement with said staple, and means associated with said lock for actuating the same.'
