T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN P. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the countyv of Duval and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Window-Sashes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel attachment for movably and attachably securing the inner and the outer sashes of a window together.
The prime object of the invention is to provide simple, durable, economical and eflicient means for securing an inner and an outer sash together in such a manner that the inner sash may be easily and readily swung away from the outer sash to any desired adjusted position, and secured in such adjusted position, and at the same time including means whereby the said sashes are firmly secured to each other, yet may be readily detached and separated, the construction and relation of the sashes with respect to each other being shown, described and claimed in an application filed by me December 1, 1919, Serial No. 341,658.
Another object of the invention is to so construct my novel attachment that it may be folded and concealed within the recesses formed in the side rails of the inner and outer sashes.
Another object of the invention is to provide means forming a part of the attachment for providing a yielding pivotal connection for the meeting ends of the folding links or arms, and means for locking the removable arm to the inner sash frame.
A further object of this invention is to so construct my improved attachment that when it is folded in shut or closed position, the parts thereof will be covered, inclosed and protected by the fixed keepers to which the movable parts are connected.
The foregoing and such other objects as may appear from the ensuing description are attained by the novel features of construction, arrangement, combination and location of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto, it being understood that slight changes in. the form, proportion, and minor details of the construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Reference now being had to the accom panying drawings, which form a part of this specification and in which similar numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, it will be seen that F lgure l, is a view in elevation showing the novel attachment embodying my invent10n secured to the side rail of an inner sash, the lower portion of the sash rail being broken. away.

In carrying out my invention as illus trated, and which shows a preferred con struction, the numeral 1 designates the side rail of an inner sash for Windows, 2 keeper fixedly secured within a suitable recess formed in the sash rail, said keeper being formed with a base member 3 and an integral outwardly extended flange member 4, the base member having a plurality of countersunk openings 5 formed therethrough, each opening formed for the reception of the headed portion of a set screw 6, adapted to rigidly and firmly secure the keeper to the sash rail with the head of each screw resting flush with the outer surface of said keeper. The keeper 2 is provided with an outwardly extended fixed pin 7, permanently secured to the base thereof, said pin having a recessed portion 8 formed below its outer end for the reception of a locking latch pivotally secured to the removable shorter link or arm 9, for the purpose hereinafter described. The numeral 10 designates anether keeper which is permanently secured within a suitable recess formed in the side rail of the outer sash (not shown), said keeper 10 being formed and secured in substantially the same manner as the keeper 2 hereinbefore referred to, and fixedly secured near the upper end base portion of the keeper 10 by a suitable rivet 11, is a longer link or arm 12. The meeting end of each of the links or arms 9 and 12 is formed with an embossed connection integral therewith, forming a series of ribs and corrugations 18 formed radially thereon, said meeting ends being pivotally connected together by a headed rivet 14, so that their ends will interlock with each other and thereby lock the swinging inner sash at any desirable adjusted position, with respect to the outer sash, and fixedly secured to arm or link 9 by a rivet 15 is one end of a fiat plate spring 16, the other or outer end of the spring being resiliently secured beneath the head of the rivet 14, said spring exerting sufficient pressure to cause the ribs and corrugations to interlock with each other when adjusted to properly register, and at the same time permit the yielding of the jointed ends sufiicient to allow the desired adjustment of the arms with respect to each other when the required amount of pressure is exerted for the purpose, as will be readily obvious.
It will be perceived that the shorter arm or link 9 is provided near its outer end with an opening 20 adapted for the reception of the pin 7, by which the link 9 is removably connected to the keeper 2, said link 9 being bent transversely intermediate its length at 17, and permanently secured to one face thereof below its bent portion is the spring 16, while permanently secured to its opposite face above the bent portion by a rivet 18, is a locking latch 19 provided with a hook-shapedend portion adapted to engage with the recessed portion 8 of the pin 7, and rest in contact with the outer face of the link 9 and thereby lock said link to the stationary pin 7.
'The outer end of each link or arm 9 and 12 is formed with a curved or cam-shaped end portion 21, which. is adapted to contact with the outwardly extended flanged portion of each keeper before the jointed or meeting ends of the arms reach a dead center, thereby avoiding the necessity of breaking the jointed ends, since the outer end portion of each arm will contact with the flange of its respective keeper, and thereby constitute a stop to limit the inward movement of the inner sash with respect to the outer sash. a
It will be seen that the longer arm 12 is fixedly secured by a rivet to the upper end portion of the keeper 10, while the shorter arm 9 is removably or detachably secured to a pin 7 located considerably below the upper end of its keeper, and owing to the relative construction and arrangement of the several parts they are all concealed and inclosed within the keepers when the parts shall have been folded into the positions shown by Figs. 8 and 9.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2- V 1. An attachment for window sashes, comprising two links of different lengths yieldingly connected together at their meeting ends, each link being connected at its outer end with a longitudinally positioned keeper fixedly secured to a window sash, the longer link being fixedly connected to its keeper and the shorter link being removably connected'to its keeper, said shorter link carrying means for locking it to its keeper, all of said connected parts being adapted to rest between the keepers when in folded position.
2. An attachment of the character described, comprising two fixedly secured keepers, each of said keepers having an integral outward extension, two'links of different lengths yieldingly connected at their meeting ends, the longer link being pivotally and fixedly secured to its keeper and the shorter link detachably connected to the other keeper, and means pivotally secured to the shorter link in alinement therewith for locking said shorter, link to its keeper, all of said connected parts being adapted to be inclosed within the keepers when in" scribed, comprising two longitudinally 0;
sitioned fixedly secured'keepers, each'of said keepers being provided with a longitudinal integral flanged outward extension, two links of different lengths pivotally, yieldingly and adjustably connected at their meeting ends, each link being pivotally secured to a keeper, a recessed pin secured to one of the keepers for pivotally and detachably securing the shorter link thereto, and a pivoted locking latch secured to the shorter link adapted to engage said recessed pin for locking said link to its fixed keeper, all of said parts being adapted, to be confined between the keepers when in folded or closed position. v
4. An attachment of the character described, comprising two stationary longitudinally positioned keepers each provided with an integral flanged outward extension, two links of different lengths pivotally,
yieldingly and adjustably connected at their ment of said links, said links and the parts connected thereto being adapted to rest between the inner face of said keepers when in folded position.
5. An attachment of the character described, comprising two stationary keepers each being provided with a longitudinal outward extension, two links of different lengths pivotally and adjustably connected at their meeting ends, one of said links be ing removably secured to a keeper and the other link fixedly secured to its keeper, the shorter link being bent intermediate its length and having a fiat spring rigidly secured to one face thereof in alinement therewith and a locking latch pivotally secured to its opposite face above its bent portion in alinement therewith, whereby all of said parts are adapted to fold together in vertical alinement between the keepers when in closed position, and each of said connected links being formed with a cam shaped outer end adapted to contact with the longitudinal outward extension formed on each keeper to limit the outward movement of the links.
