onovn application filed January 7, 1922. Serial No. 527,572.
T 0 all whom i 'may concer/n.'
Be it known that We, llLiUiiioE C. FRANK nNsTiiiN and Josiirir W. FRANimNs'riiiN,eiti- Zens of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, oi which the following is a specification.
lThis invention relates to improvements in gloves, and the object thereof is to provide a glove, constructed in a inai'inerA as hereinafter set forth, having reinforced portions whereby the. wearing qualities of the glove are prolonged and the saine rendered more r impervious to the passage of heat when used.
by `furnace workers and kindred occupa tions. l
Further objects of the invention are to provide a glove of the character stated which is simple in its construction and ar rangement, strong, durable and eilicient in its use, and eomparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of the novel construetion, combination and arrange-nient of parts herein described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
wherein is shown an embodiment of the in.-
vention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications niav be resorted'to which come withinthe seoye or' the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing forming a' portion o'l" this .specification and wherein like numerals ot" reference designate Icorresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 isa iront view of a glove in aecordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a rear View thereof. y Figure 3 is a front -View of a modified foiin of the glove.
Referring in detail to thedrawing i de' notes the body portion of the glove provided with a cuf 2 of the usual construction.
The back 3 of the body portion l, with the exception of the indesr linger 4, is constructed from a single ply of material, but the front 5 of the body portion of the glove,
including the rear portion of the index inger 4 and the front of the thumb member 6,
is formed from several plies of material. These several plies of material are secured together with the transverse stitching 7.
As the index linger 4 oi? the glove is at all times subjected to the most wear, the entire rein-forcement of this 'member will obviously prolong the life of 'the glove.
The manner of stitching 7 lwill serve to hold the several plies of material in position even after the outer ply has been worn through from use.
in the modification shown in Figure 3 the back of the thumb 6 is also formed from several plies of materials and stitched, as indicated at This construction is primarily designed 'for use of furnace workers and the like, where the Woniinien are exposed to great heat. In grasping an implenient the forward .portion .of 'the glove in cludiiig the index nger and thuinb are nearest the source of heat in suoli Work, and the double plies of material in our improved glove construction will serve to prevent penetration of heat to the most exposed part ot the hand.
A glove having .its front formed of a plurality of plies of vmaterial and further having the backs of the index finger and thumb thereof formed of a plurality of plies oit material, the plurality oi said plies of ina-- terial forming said front being secured together lof; a plurality of rows ot' stitching, each of seid rows extending transversely in a iine of lexnre of the glove when in use., and said plies of material forming the backs oi' the index finger and thunlaseeiired to getiier by stitching extending in alignment reiativeigwto 'the rows of stitching securing the plies'v forming the front or the glove, substantially described and. Vfor 'thepurpose set ortii. i
in testimony wliereei we a-i'lx our signai tures.
