Description
1.8. WERTZ Weather-Strips.
40,153,734. Patented Aug.4,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIOE.
JOHN s. WERTZ, OF MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATH ER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 153.734, dated August 4, 1874; application filed July 1, 1874.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, JOHN S. WERTZ, of Mount Pleasant, in the county 0t Henry and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Strips and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to-which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I
Figure 1 is an elevation with door open. Fig. 2 is a transverse section with the door partly closed. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of lower part of the door and transverse section of strip and plates with door closed.
My invention relates to an air and water proof door-strip; and consists of two plates, one attached to the strip and the other to the bottom of the door, and constructed and arranged so that as the door closes the doorplate slides under the strip-plate, forming a joint, through which neither air nor water can pass into the house.
The outer edge of a plate, b, is tightly fastened at the lower and outer edge of the doorstrip A, and the inner edge of the plate extends partly over and slightly above the top of the strip, as shown in the drawings. The upper edge of a plate, 0, is attached to the inside of door B near the bottom, and extends slightly below, and is bent so as to extend outward parallel with the bottom of the door, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Plate 0 is provided a lip, 01, to guide it under the plate b as the door is closed, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a weather-strip, theplate 0 provided with lip d, in combination with a plate, 12, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN S. WERTZ. Witnesses:
WEsLEY BOOK, GEO. L. WHITE.
