S. A. RANKIN. WEATHER-STRIP.
Patented J'une13, 1876.
TIMES.
Imus, PHOTO-LITHOGR UNITE STATES PATENT. OFFICE. 1
S. ADAM RANKIN, OF MULBERRY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, S. ADAM RANKIN, of Mulberry, in the county of Bates, and in the State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Gounterpoise Weather-Strip for neath the door, and which shall be so con-- structed as to be raised by its own weight to a level with the lower edge of the door when the door is opened, and will shut down closely uponthe threshold when the door is closed.
The invention consists in the two strips hinged to each other at their forward sides,
and correspondingly rabbeted upon their adjacont sides, in combination with the door, and with the pin or roller attached to the door-post, and in the combination of the hook or angle iron with the door, and with the lower or hinged strip, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a door, B, the door frame or posts, and O the threshold, about the construction of which parts there is nothing new. D E are two strips, which are made-diamondshaped in their general form, and are hinged to each other at their forward sides. The
rear corner of the lower side ofthe upper strip D and the forward corner of the upper Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,670, dated June 13, 1876; application filed I May 16, 1876.
side of the lower strip E are rabbeted as shown in Fig. 2, so that the said sides will fit upon each other. The upper strip D is securely attached to the lower part of the door A. By this construction, when the lower strip outer side of the lower strip E strikesagainst a small pin or roller, F, attached to the doorpost B, which forces down the forward part of the strip E upon the threshold, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2', so that wind, rain, or snow cannot beat in beneath the door.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p 1. The two strips D E, hinged to each other at their forward sides, and correspondingly rabbeted upon their adjacent sides, in combination with the door A, and with the pin or roller F, attached to the door-post B, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the hook or angle iron G with the door A, and with the lower or hinged strip E, substantially as herein shown and described.
S. ADAM RANKIN.
