Description

May '12, 1925.
G. F. MILLER CONTAINER (DENTAL ELOSS) Filed Oct. 5, 1921 Patented May 12, 1925.
UNITED STATES enoaenzr. MILLER, O'FBROOKLYN, NEW voaanssrenoa TO AMERICAN can c0191- rANY, on NEW YORK, N.-Y., a CORPORATION or NEW JERSEY.
CONTAINER (DENTAL rLoss).
Application filed 0ctober'5, 1921. fierial No. 505,648.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen F. MILLE a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Containers (Dental Floss), of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates in general to containers adapted for the packaging of dental floss or like material and has more particular reference to a new and improved arrangement of a holder and a reel positioned therein, which arrangement lends itself in especially eflicient manner to the provision of a containerof relatively large capacity and susceptible of inexpensive and practical commercial production.
A principal object of the invention is the provision of a dental floss container formed of a plurality of pieces of material, with resultant large capacity, and this without the use of any other means than the frictional engagement of said pieces to join them together. i
A further object of the invention is the provision in a dental floss container of a two-piece reel in which the pieces are so joined together as to form a central aperture into which specially formed portions of the sides or panels of the holder may extend to form a bearing for the reel.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an article of the character described, constructed of a minimum number of easily formed parts being thus adapted to'economical manufacture and unlikely to become easily damaged or broken in service. 7 7
Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following de scription when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings illustrating ajpreferrcd embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a completely assembled container embodying the principles of my invention, and
. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken centrally through such a container.
Upon the drawings I have shown, as an exemplification ofv my invention, a dental floss container, comprising. two interfitting.
parts or panels 11' and 12, having inwardly extending flanges 13 and 14 respectively,
the flange 13 being of larger circumferential dimension whereby to permit it to embrace and friotionally engage the flange 14 of the other part or panel. Each panelis provided with a central depression lo and the flanges 13 and 141- are recessed at 16 and 17 respectively, said recesses being arrangeable in registration to form an aperture 18 through which the floss 19 may be dispensed.
The reel, generally indicated by the reference character 21 is formed of two disks 22 and 23 having centrally struck circular flanges 24 and '25, the'former of which is of larger circumferential dimension than the latter and adapted to. fric-tionally engage it to form a unitary construction without the use of rivets or other mechanical 1 securing means. vWith the flanges 24 and 25 nesting together, in the manner just de scribed, an aperture 26is provided through the center of the reel and into this aperture extend the depressed portions 15 of each panel thus forming an obstruction to lateral movement of the reel and providing a bearing for'rotation thereof.
It will be observed that each of the parts of the container which I have provided may be formed by simple and well-known methods and machinery, from blanks of sheet metal or other suitable material without requiring special formation and for this reason the container may be cheaply manufactured and, as constructed, provides a reel adapted to receive an exceptionally lar e amount of floss or other material for the space utilized.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be under stood from the foregoing description and it will be apparent that various changes maybe made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention claimed or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim 1. A container for dental flossfand the 1 like, comprising a holder formed of two each other the centers of said parts being bent inward to form journalsfor the reel,
and saidreel composed of; two parts having centrali flanged apertures arranged to fit loosely around said journals of the holder, and said flanges of the reel being telescoped one Within the other and forming a base for the Winding'of'the flossupon the reel.
2. A container for dental floss and the like, consisting of an exterior two-part GEO. F. MILLER.
