MEANS FOR LOCATING A TOOL FOR PERFORATING METAL CONTAINERS Filed Dec. 4, 1931 Patented May 22, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT MEANS FOR LOCATIN G A TOOL FOR PERFO- RATING METAL CONTAINERS 2 Claims.
The present invention is directed generally to metal containers for dispensing cleaning'powders and soap, but more particularly to the container construction which is provided with the novel means thereon in combination with a tool by means of which the tool may be readily positioned or centered on the container for punching apertures therein through which the cleaning powder or soap may be dispensed therefrom.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved metal container having novel means thereon for properly positioning a tool thereon preparatory to punching apertures in the container for dispensing the contents thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved metal container construction which has a series of regularly spaced apart and annularly arranged cuts or scored apertures in the top thereof in which certain of these scored portions have suitable depressions therein to expediate the positioning of a tool having prongs thereon into these depressions in the top of the container so that the scored portions may be depressed for providing apertures in the top of the container.
More particularly, the invention in the present instance is an improvement of my co-pending application. Serial No. 569,689, filed 19th day of Oct., 1931, in that it provides an improvement in the container construction for quickly positioning the perforating tool in registering alignment with the scored or cut portions of the con tainer preparatory to punching the apertures therein.
' Referring to the drawing:.
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a m tal container showing the manner in which the tool may be positioned in the depressed scored portions of the top of the container;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary top plan view of my improved form of top for the container;
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary cross sectional view of the top of the container showing certain of the prongs of the tool depressed through certain of the scored portions of the container top; and
Fig. 5 is a similar view showing all the prongs of the tool punched through the scored apertures in the top of the container.
In illustrating one form of my invention, I have shown the same in connection with the conventional-form of metal container or can 10, which is provided with the usual circular top 11. Lo-
cated concentrically about the center of 11 of the can 10 is or partially out eight in number.
OFFICE the top a plurality of circular scored portions 12 of which there are Every other one of these circular cut or scored portions as indicated at 13,
of which there are four in number, are depressed inwardly toward the inner portion of the can for the primary purpose of centering or locating the elongated prongs alignment with the scored or cut 14 of a tool 15 in registering portions throughout the top of the container 10. It will be noted that the tool 15 is provided with four relatively short prongs 16 which are located alternately between the long prongs further depression of the tool with the 14, so that on a palm of the hand, the scored portions 12 in the top of the container, which are located between pressed portions 13, punched for perforating 11 of the container 10.
My previously mentioned co-pending present application is tion of the tool with the depressed formed in the the demay be subsequently all the holes in the top application is directed primarily to the tool, while the directed to the combinaportions top for quickly and accurately locating the prongs of the tool in its positions in registering alignment with the cut or scored portions in the arrangement, it will be readily seen that top of the container. With this the long prongs 14 may be moved about the top of the can and readily become seated in the depressions 13 of the top thereof without any effort on of the operator, resulting in the saving which would be necessary of these depressions.
the part of time,
without the provision While in the above specification I have described one embodiment assume in practice, it will of which my invention may course, be understood that the same is capable of modification and that modification may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as expressed in the following claims.
What I claim is my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:
1. The combination with a container for dispensing material therefrom, of a tool therefor,
said container having a plurality of arcuately arranged cut portions therein, certain portions having of said depressions, and a plurality of circularly arranged prongs carried by said tool,
certain of said of said prongs, said longer prongs being to engage the tainer for positioning said tool in re alignment with all of said portions.
prongs being longer than other adapted depressed portions in said congistering 2. The combination with a cylindrical metal rality of circularly arranged prongs carried by container for dispensing material therefrom, of said tool, the alternate prong being longer than a tool therefor, said container having circular the adjacent prong and adapted to engage the cut portions in the top thereof arranged in depressed portion in said container for position- 5 spaced apart relation concentrically with the ing said tool in registering alignment with all center of the container, there being depressions of said out portions. formed in the alternate cut portions, and a plu- JOSEPH I.
