IVAN W. ,J'AIVIIIESON, 0F PALMS, CALIFORNIA.
LATHING STRIP.
Application filed February 5, 1924. Serial No. 690,844.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, IVAN W, JAMiEsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Falms, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Latliing Strips, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to ar lathing strip, the general object of the invention being to form a strip formed of aplurality of -laths and abacking of felt, paper or the like which prevents moisture from reaching the lath.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for vfastening the laths i together andto the backin0'.
vThis invention also consists in certain other features of constructiony and in the lcomliination and arrangement of the several v parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in ythe accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. y'
Indeseribing my invention in detail, reference will whe had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a face view of a latliing strip constructed in accordance with this invention. Y n j A' i Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1. l
Figure 3 is a similar View` showing how the parts are assembled together.
Figures 4 and 5 are'views showing how the lathing strip is used.
Figure 6 is a view showing `howthe latlis are ent-to provide the beveled edges. As shown in these views, they strip is formed of a plurality of laths l and a sheet 2 of felt or the like to which the latlis aie secured by means of the strips of wire 3 which are providedL with the kinks 4i which are pressed into the laths. As shown, these wires are used for holding thelaths together by running the lengths of wires transversely of the laths'and pressing the kinks into the front faces ofthe laths and they are also used for lfastening the `backing sheet tothe laths by pressing the kinks in the lengths of wires in rear of thestrip through the backing sheet into the latlis. only serve as connecting means but also' act as reinforcements for the strip.
as shown in Figures i and 5 and it should he applied so as to break joints. n The article isv mainly designed for exterior work with eement oristuceo. The 'felt hacking has a tend-y encyk to prevent moisture reaching the wooden lath or stucco and the strip can be mannfactured on a conveying belt so that the product can be turned out very quickly and cheaply. v
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and iiovelfeatures `of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire yit to he understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the ing a backing sheet, a plurality of laths placed thereon and spaced apart, wires on the front and rear faces of the strip and having portions pressed into the laths to 'hold the laths together and to hold the backing sheet in place.
2. A strip of the class described comprising a backing sheet, a plurality vof laths placed thereon and spaced apart, wires on These wires not r The laths are each provided with a beveled edge 5 so This the front and rear faces of the strip and` having portions pressed into the laths to hold the latlis together and tohold the backing sheet in place, each lath having` a beveled edge. y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
IVAN IV. JAMIESON.
