APPLICATION FILED OCT. 2. 1915,

WITN ESSES ATTOR N EY %TAE@ CURTAIN-SHADE AND ROLLER CONNECTOR.
Application filed October 2, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL E. KERR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Shade and Roller Connectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in means for connecting shade rollers and has for its primary object the provision of a device of this character which will firmly connect a shade to ashade roller and one which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, strong and durable and positive in operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character above de scribed which will connect a shade to the shade roller evenly.
with the above and other objects in view my invention resides preferably in the con struction, combination, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in thespecification as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a transverse sectional view of the shade roller showing my improved connecting means associated therewith.
Fig. 2 is a plane view of the blank from which my improved connector is formed; and
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of a shade roller showing my invention associated therewith.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the various views of the drawing.
In the drawings, I have illustrated a shade roller 1 and the usual curtain shade 2.
My invention more specifically includes a strip 3 of flexible material such as heavy cloth paper or may be made from a strip of curtain shade material. One side of this strip is gummed for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. The strip 3 is provided adjacent its longitudinal marginal edges with a plurality of tongues 4t struck from said strip and a plurality of elongated apertures 5 complementally arranged to said tongues for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 19ft.
Serial No. 53,756.
In order to connect the shade to the roller the gummed surface of the strip ismoistened and said strip is wrapped about the roller, the free marginal edges thereof designated 6 and 7 embracing the upper marginal edge of the shade 2 and caused to grip the same by virtue of the gummed surface presented to said shade. The tongues 4 are now placed through the openings 5 and are. adapted to adhere to the outer surface of the strip as indicated at 8.
When the above process has been completed, the shade may be rolled upon the roller 1 and allowed to dry, or if it is desired, the shade need not be rolled as stated.
Attention is directed to the fact that the use of tacks, nails and other antiquated means is not necessary in connection with my improved roller and shade connector thereby rendering the possibility of tearing and mutilating'of the shade improbable.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, use and advantages of my invention may be readily gathered and while I have shown and described the same as embodying a specific structure, I reserve the right to make changes therein which do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A connector for shade rollers including a strip of flexible material having one surface thereof gummed, said strip having a series of tongues struck therefrom, complemental apertures arranged in said strip opposite said tongues, said tongues and apertures being spaced from the adjacent marginal edges of the strip, the strip being adapted to wrap about the roller and engage a shade between the remaining gummed ends thereof, said tongues being adapted to pass through said apertures and adhesively connect with said strip, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
