The steam jacket 18' is formed to encircle the lower end of thefbowl 1 between the flange 18 and the lower end of the bowl.
The inner wall 19 of thesteam jacket 18A follows the converging,` sha-pe of ythe howl wall and is so formed: as to leave the hotk air space 20 completely encircling. the wall of the bowl 1, said inner wall projecting` downwardly to form with the `said bowl wall, the annular packing` slot 21 in which the lead ring` 221 is inserted.

rlhe end wall 2S of the slide chamber is rigidly secured to the bottom of the steam jacket 1S and side walls 29 extend from said end wall 2S and are formed with the ledges 30.
The slide chamber or steam passage 2T is formed around the bowl outlet 31 and eX- tends therefrom.
The hollow slide 32 closes the outlet 8l and forms in itself a steam chamber 33 coinmunicat-ing with said passage 27, the bottoni ribs or ledges 34 being wedge shaped to coact with the ribs or ledges 30 in moving the slide 32 upwardly against the packing ring 22.
The rib or bead projects upwardly from the top surface of the slide and borders the fiat inner surface on three sides and the end portion of the top is thickened to forni a raised table 36 for the valves to slide on. The diamond shaped boss 37 projects upwardly from said table 3G midway between the sides and is intended to operate the valves on the movement of the slide` The lugs 3S project from the end of the slide 82 and the connecting rod 39 is pivotally secured at one end to said lugs 38 and at the other end carries the rack 40.
The valves 4l and 42 are slidably secured in a recess of the wall 24 of the steam jacket 18 and move on the surface of table 36 to bring the ports in the valves in register with the ports 4G in the wall 24.
rllhe valves 4l and 42 have the inner tapered ends 43, engaged by the boss 37 in sliding the valves outwardly, and the outer tapered ends 44 engaged b y the corner bosses 47 or the corner bosses 4S of the slide 32 in sliding the valves inwardly.
lhile the slide remains fully open there will be no steam fed for sterilizing purposes on to the inside :tace of the slide though during the travel of said slide the said inner face is thoroughly sterilized. But the return of the slide to its closed position means the reopening of the valves by the parting boss 37 and a fresh sterilization, however the opposite corner bosses 48 again move the valves 4l and 42 to their closed positions and cnt oli' the steam from the tace of the slide 32, thus in both sliding ontwardly and inwardly the bottoni of the bowl is well cleaned.
The rack frame 40 is formed with the longitudinal shaft slot 49 and the rack 5 mounted on one side of the frame adjacent to said slot.
The vertical shaft 5l extends through the shaft slot 49 and carries said rack frame at its lower end, said shaft 51 being` secured therein by the washer 52 and nut 53.
The pinion 54 is mounted on the shaft 5l messes and coacts with the rack in sliding the slide 32, the said shaft 5l being operated at its upper end within the car by the crank handle 55.
The crank handle 55 is situated Vin the porters locker 5G and also the controlling valve 5T for the water tlowing to the flushin;` channel.`
The valve 57 is operated by the arm mounted on the stein of the valve and connected to the lng 59 on the door Gt) by the iod (3l, therefore when the door GO is opened the valve 57 is also opened and the flushing j. L A A p oi die bowl i occurs simultaneously with the opening of the door.
The opening` of the door G0 also relieves the shaft handle from engagement with the spring 62, which extends into the locker 56 in two sections, one section to hold the shaft handle in the closed position of the slide 82 and the other section to hold the shaft handle tightly in the opening position of the slide 32, that there shall be no rattling'.

The flushing channel in the ring 9 is connected to the water reservoir through the valve 57 hy the pipe G7 and the cover plate is thickened at the entrance to this pipe and the wall of the channel slightly dropped and formed in the interior with an upwardlyv projectingv parting rib G8. which naturally divides the water entering and sends it in the two directions.

There may be some changes .in lthe various elements makingup this device and it must be understood that without de )artiner el O from the spirit of the invention such changes mayoccur without invalidating the protection so long as they are'within the scope of the claims fornovelty following.

A bowl secured under the floor having an outlet at the bottom thereof, a hollow slide in a steam receptacle and closing said outlet, a connecting rod Secured to said slide at one end and at the other end to a rack traine having a longitudinal Slot and rack on the one Side oit said slot, a vertical shaft extending through said slot and secured b v nut and washer at the bottoni end extending upwardly through the car looring, a pinion mounted on said shaft and eoacting with said rack, a crank handle mounted at the upper end of said shaft in a suitable enclosure, a door for said closure, a spring cover to said door and engaging said crank handle, a valve introduced intermediately of the water pipe and Secured in saidvcnclosure, an arm Secured to the Stein ol said valve, a rod pivotally secured to said arm and terminating in a lug on the door and a flushing device attached to said bowl and connected with said water pipe.

A bowl below the car floor, a cover for said bowl, a separable piece in ring form con'ipleting the annular channel for 'flushing` water formed on the under side of Said cover, the latter having a thickened portion forming an inletI and a drop in the wall forming said channel opposite Said inlet, a parting boss being formed on said inner wall to deflect the water in two directions, lowing through Said inlet, a water pipe screw-threaded in said inlet and a valve controlling the Supply of water to said pipe.
16. An under car waste bowl having a slide bottom connected to a source oit heat, and a hot chamber having an opening4 therethrough leading out from the bottom ot the bowl and closed by Said slide.
