c. w. WARE SCREEN OR RIDDLE CLEANER- Filed Sept. 6, 1925 by the machine iframe 8. A coil spring 32 maintains the arm 28 With its tooth 27 yieldingly engaged with the Wheel 26.
By means of this construction, it is apparent that the usual reciprocating motion imparted to the box 5 u'ill cause the Wheel 2G to be operated, or rotated, one tooth at a time, by its engagement with the tooth 27 et the arm 28, any reverse movement of the wheel being prevented by a sjn-ing-actuated pawl 9st carried by the box 5 adjacent to said Wheel. Obviously, such intern'iittent rotation ot Wheel 2G Will produce a. corresponding intermittent travel ol the conveyor ,chains 20 and the brushes carried thereby. This intermittent movement et the brushes is that best adapted for lnodncing the most efficient cleaning action, without involving any clogging of the meshes oi the screen, and in this n'lovement of the brushes the bristles 1S are j abbed into the meshes of the screen, in contrast to the wiping movement with which the brushes are commonly carried across the screen. ln the present construetion, the'bristles are jabbed into the screen, which gouges out any clogging material, and as the brush head 17 moves on, the bristles are caught in the screen meshes, and then released, thereby elliectually freeing thebristles of any material which may be clinging thereto. Thus the brushes are of a character adapted to thoroughly clean the material trom the screens and also to exert a constant self-cleaning function during the travel of the brushes.
The improved cleaning device is adapted for use with any form of separator apparatus employing movable screens from which the` desired intermittent movement may be imparted to the traveling brushes. lVhile I have illustrated what represents a practical form oi construction for the device, l desire not to be limited to the specific Jform shown nor to the specific type of drive connection between the screen box and brushes, but reserve the right to. make all such changes and modifications as may fairly`fall Within the scope ot the appended claims.
that l claim is:
l. Apparatus of the character described, comprising a reciprocating screen, an endless conveyor device traveling parallel with said screen, a brush carried by said conveyor device in engagement with the screen, and means actuated by thc. niovement ot the screen for producii'lg intermittent travel ot said conveyor device.
2. Apparatus et the character described, comprising a reciprocating screen, an en dless conveyor device traveling parallel with said screen, a brush carried by said conveyor device in engagement; with the screen, a shal't acting to drive said conveyor device and provided ivith a ratchet Wheel, and a toothed member supported independently 'ot said screen and in engagement With said Wheel tor intermittently actuating the latter in response to the reciprocations of the screen.
3. Apparatus of the character described comprising a reciprocating separator meinber, a pair of spaced screens carried by said member, an endless conveyor device provided with cleaning brushes traveling in alternate enga-gement with the opposed faces ot said screens, and means actuated by the movement of said reciprocating member for producing intermittent travel ot said conveyor device.
In Witness whereof l hereunto atiix my signature.
