This invention `relates to paper `feeding mechanisms for printing machines of the Chandler& Price and similar types, such as is disclosed in "my U. S. Letters Patent No. 1476829 datedDe'cember 11, 1923, to which reference is madefor `a more detailed descriptionthan is necessary for a complete understanding of this invention.
In the said patent` there is disclosed a paper feeding mechanism adapted to be swung away from` the printing machine in order to `permit hand feeding of the paper and for `other purposes.
'It isfa'n object of this invention to provide a novel and` improved lmechanism for moving the paper feeding' mechanism to onefside ofthe printing machine for the purpose :set forth. To this end my invention "is embodied in a Lpaper feed mechanism arranged and constructed as hereinafter set forth and as `illustrated in theJ accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a press equipped with a paper feed vmechanism embodying the inven-tion,"witl1` parts A.broken away and i omitted.

'For thepurpose of `this invention the aforesaid elements will bel called a paper feeding mechanism both in the specification andfin the-claims.
Referring now more particularly to the subject `matter of this inventiomthe reference numeral 11 denotes a side bracket secured to the frame 3 and lwhich is substantially similar `to a bracket serving a similar purposepshown inthe patents aforesaid. The bracket 11 has a rear upstanding arm 12 forming a shoulder 13, and la forward upstanding arm 14 having an inclined `upper surface 15 and formed `with an integral depending lug 16.
The paper feeding mechanism, more speciically theV feed table 6, is provided with an operating handlever 17 rigidly secured thereto as by a bolt 18 o-r other means. The entire feeding mechanism including the operating hand lever is pivoted at `19 ro a slide bracket 2O having a slide foot f21. The latter'slides in a guide way 22 formed on the front of the lug 16.
Normally the feed table Grests on the said inclined bracket surface 15 with its rear lower edge resting on the shoulder liand a similar shoulder 23 on a bracket "24 on the left side of the press, see Figure 2. In this position the slide bracket 2O is close to the bracket arm 14 as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, and the feeding mechanism represented by the feed table 6 is in position over the press. Then thus placed, the feeding of the press is automatic and is performed by the paper ,fee-ding mechanism and its associated and operating parts, all of which are not. shown or described `in Vthis specication.
ll/Vhen, however, it is desired to hand feed the press, or to make ready or for other reasons to get at `the press, the `feeding mechanism is slid sidewaysaway from the press bymoving the slide bracket 20 from the position shown in dottedlines in Figure ,2 to the position shown in full lines therein.
This is accomplished by the following means. A pulley bracket 26 is secured to the `fixed guide way 22 and a pulley 27 is mounted on said bracket.` A'cable 28, for instance a piano wire or other non stretchable cable wire or cord is wound around said pulley and attached to the slidebracket 2O at 29 and to the slide foot 21 at 30. Consequently when said pulley27 isrotated by the operator by means of the handle 31, the cable 28 is wound on said pulley and the slide foot is drawn across the press within the guide way 22 and the slide bracket is moved likewise carrying the feeding mechanism along.
However, before operating the feeding mechanism as described, it must be detached from its operating parts such for instance as are herein represented by the levers l0. At this point reference is again made to the aforesaid patents for a full discussion of the elements and operation of the paper feed mechanism.
Before moving the feeding mechanism it is therefore lifted as indicated by the dotted position of the feed table G in Figure I.
This movement is accomplished by the operator grasping the hand lever 17 and pushing itI to the right in Figure l around the pivot 19. In either one of its two positions, the hand lever is locked to the slide bracket by means of a spring pressed pin adapted to enter either one of two holes 3st and 35 in the slide bracket 2O as will be understood. Before operating the hand lever the operator pulls said pin out of its hole, and when the new position is reached the pin automatically snaps into the other hole and locks the lever to the bracket. For the purpose of perfect register between the feeding mechanism and the fixed bracket arm 14, the latter is provided with a hole 36 into which a pin 87 on the slide bracket is adapted to enter.
After the feeding mechanism has been removed as shown in Figure 2, the press may be hand fed from a feed board 38 placed in a socket 39, see Figure l.
To sum up: Normally the paper feeding mechanism is in position as shown in Figure l in full lines and in active operative relationship with thei press. It is removed and brought into inoperative relationship with the press by .first swinging it upward around the pivot 19`when it automatically is locked by the pin 33 entering the hole Thereafter the pulley 27 is rotated to operate the cable 28 to draw the feeding mechanism to the one side. The reverse movement brings the feeding mechanism. back into operative relationship with the press. The cable on the pulley serves also as a locking means for the slide bracket because the same cannot be moved sidewise unless the pulley is rotated.
IVhile I have disclosed my invention in its preferred form it is obvious that changes in the detailed construction may be made without departing from the principles of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. The combination with a printing press, of a paper feeding mechanism therefor, la member secured in sliding relationship to said press, means for mounting said mechanism on the said member 'and means for sliding the latter to one side of the press to remove said mechanism from operative relationship to the press.
2. The combination with a printing press of a paper feeding mechanism therefor, a member secured in sliding relationship to said press, means for pivotin(y said mechanism on the said member to operatively conneet and disconnect said mechanism from said press, means for operating said mechanism on the pivot thereof and means for moving said member towards and away from said press for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination with a printing press, of a paper feeding mechanism therefor, supporting means for said mechanism, guiding means in said supporting means, a member adapted to slide in said guiding means, means for pivoting said mechanism on the said member, means for operating said mechanism on its pivot into one of two predetermined positions with respect to the said press and means for operating said member in the said guiding means when the said feeding mechanism has been operated into one of the aforesaid two positions to move said mechanism away from operative relationship with the said press.
4. rIhe combination with a printing press, of a paper feeding mechanism therefor, a bracket to which said mechanism is pivoted, means for m-ovably supporting said bracket on the said press and means for sliding` said bracket away from said press to remove the said feeding mechanism therefrom to gain access to the press, said last mentioned means also serving to move the bracket towards the press to connect the feeding mechanism therewith.
5. The combination with a printing press, of a paper feeding mechanism therefor, a guide way secured to said press, a member movable in said guide way, means for pivoting said mechanism on the said member, means for operating said mechanism on said member to connect or disconnect the mechanism from operative relationship with the press and means for moving said member in the said guide way to remove said feeding mechanism from the press.
6. The combination'with a printing press, of a paper feeding' mechanism therefor, a guide way secured to said press, a member movable in said guide way, means for pivoting said mechanism on the said men'iber, means for operating said mechanism on said member to connect or disconnect the mechanism from operative relation with the press and normally operable means interposed between said press and member for moving said member and the said paper feeding mechanism to one side of the press.
