To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS SCHWARTZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Loud Speaker, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to loud speakers and is primarily for use in connection with radio apparatus although the invention in its broadest sense applies to sound amplifying means which ma 7 be used in connection with any apparatus desired.
An object of the invention is to provide a loud speaker or sound amplifier which comprises a main horn and one or more smaller auxiliary horns having a common inlet whereby the sound waves may be controlled and directed as may be desired; and this is further facilitated by the fact that valves are provided in the horns to control the passages.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which functions to throw the sound in different directions and in any volume in a particular direction.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in t 1e claims.

My improved loud speaker or sound amplifier comprises a main horn 1 and a plurality of auxiliary horns 2. Y
The main horn 1 is of general conical form, smallest at its inlet end 3 and increasing gradually in diameter to a point near its outlet end where it is provided with a flared bell mouth 4.
The auxiliary horns 2- extend along the side gvall of the horn 1 and have their inlet ends coincident with and terminating at the inlet end 3 of horn 1. These auxiliary horns are of general tubular form and may be integral with horn 1, one portion of each auxiliary horn projecting within the horn 1 and the other portion located outside of the plane of horn 1, as clearly shown in Figure 2. Applicant forms his horn by molding or casting, utilizing the material as cores which can be readily removed.
The auxiliary horns 2 as they approach their outlet ends are preferably flared and terminate in hell months 5. These outlet ends of the auxiliary horns 2 curve gradu ally away from the main horn 1 so as to discharge the sound laterally.
The auxiliary horns 2 are preferably provided with valves 6 of any approved con struction to regulate the size of the passage and control the volume of sound, and a valve 7, preferably of the butterfly type, is located within the main horn 1 for the same purpose.
In Figure 1 I illustrate a slightly modified form of construction in which the amplifier or loud s eaker is of general compound curvature ut, in other respects, the construction is similar to that above de scribed, and I have used like reference characters to indicate like parts.
It is to be understood, of course, that the invention is not limited to the particular shape of the amplifier or loud speaker, and is directed broadly to the idea of a main horn and one or more auxiliary horns having a common inlet and through which the sound is controlled so as to direct and re ulate the sound as may be desired and give full amplification to the sound.
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1.
