N. L. STEVENS DISPLAY STAND FOR HOSIERY FilefAu. 21, 1924 7 2727/52? for;
Patented Apr. 28, 1925.
1 UNITED STATES PATENT- OFFICE- NORMAN L. STEVENS,
DISPLAY STAND FOR I-IOSIER Y.
Application filed August 21, 1924. Serial No. 733,311.
same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and fuse the same, reference being had to the ac companying drawings, which form apart of this specification.
The present invention has forits object toproduce a simple, novel and attractive device foruse in stores for the purpose of displaying hosiery in connection with advertising pictures or other matter.
A further ob'ect of the present invention.
is to produce a device of the character described which will be small and compact so as to take up very littleroom in shipping the same.
' The various features of novelty whereby my invention is characterized will hereinafter be pointed out with particularity in the claims; but, fora full understanding of my invention and of its objects and advantages, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front view and Fig. 2 is a rear view of a device arranged in accordance with my invention, opened upfor use; Fig. 3 is a side view of the device; Fig. t is similar to Fig. 2, showing only a fragment of the device, the arms thereon being shown in a different position than in Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a section taken approximately on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a panel that is preferably widened at the bot tom as indicated at 2. Near the bottom of the panel is a long transverse slot 3. The space bounded by the heavy black line 4 is adapted to contain illustrations and other advertising matter. On the rear side of the panel is a suitable brace 5 hinged at its upper end to the panel as indicated at 6, so that the brace may either be swung out into a supporting position as shown in Fig. 3, or be laid flat against the back of the panel. On the rear face of the panel, at the sides and near the top, are fastened two small plates 7 and 8 bowed at the center to form parallel vertical open bearings. 9 and 10 are two heavy wires or small rods, each having an end 11 bent laterally at right angles;
01? BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE MEYERCORD COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS. i
the parts being so constructed and arranged that the bent ends fit into bearings or openingsformed between the plates Tand 8 and the back of thepanel, so that the members 9 and '10 may be supported in horizontal positions either parallel with the plane of the panel or at an angle to such plane. The free end of each arm'may also be bent laterally, as indicated at 12, preferably in the upward direction. I For shipping purposes,
the arms aresimply lifted out of their supporting bearings or sockets and laid flat against the panel. 1 I
In using the device, the parts may be adjusted into the position showninFigs. 1 to 3,-and stockings, either all of one color or various colors, may be hung on the projectmgarms at opposite sides of the panel, the
' feet being brought down behind the panel and'drawn outwardly through the longslot.
In this way the feet and the tops of. the
stockings'may be emphasized. If it be desired, because of lack of display space, or for other reasons, the arms may be swung through angles of 180 degrees so that each extends entirely across the panel and projects beyond the latter on the side opposite that on which it is supported, as shown in Fig. 4. Or, if desired, the arms may be adjusted to an intermediate position, between the two extreme positions illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4 respectively.
While I have illustrated and described with particularity only a single preferred form of my invention, I do not desire to be limited to the exact structural details thus illustrated and described; but intend to cover all forms and arrangements which come within the definitions of my invention constituting the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described comprising a solid panel, means for supporting the panel in a more or less upright position, said panel having a long transverse slot through the same near the bottom, and lateral arms near the upper end of the panel, the parts being so proportioned and the slot being of such a height and width that one end of each of a plurality of stockings hung upon said arms may be passed through the slot from the rear of the panel and be ex hibited in front of the panel.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a solid panel having on its front face a large advertising space and having near the bottom a long transverse slot, arms projecting laterally from the panel near the upper end, and means for supporting the panel in a more or less upright position, the parts beingso proportioned and the slot being of such a height and Width that one end of each of a plurality of stockings hung upon said arms may be passed through the slot from the rear of the panel and be exhibited in front of the panel.
3. A device of the character described comprising a solid panel having a long transverse slot through the same, laterally projecting arms on the panel above the slot, and means for supporting the panel in a more or less upright position, the parts being so proportioned and the slot being of such a height and width that one end of each of a plurality of stockings hung upon said arms may be passed through the slot from the rear of the panel and be exhibited in front of the panel.
4. A device of the character described comprising a solid panel having a long transverse slotthrough the same, arms con nected to the upper portion of the panel near the sides thereof so as to be adjustable into various positions, and means for supporting the panel in a more or less upright position, the parts being so proportioned and the slot being of such a height and width that one end of each of a plurality of stockings hung upon said arms may be passed through the slot from the rear of the panel and be exhibited in the front of the panel.
5.-A device of the character described comprising a solid panel having a long transverse slot near its lower end, a brace hinged to the back of the panel to support it in a more or less upright position or be swung flat against the panel, and arms hinged to the upper portion of the panel so as to be capable of swinging between positions in which each projects beyond the edges adjacent to which it is hinged and positions in which each extends across the rear face of the panel.
6. A device of the character described comprising a solid panel having a long transverse slot through the same, a supporting brace hinged to the rear face of the panel, elements arranged on the rear of the panel above said slot and near the sides of the panel having holes extending vertically therethrough, and a pair of arms each having an end turned at right angles thereto and adapted to fit into one of said holes, the parts being so proportioned and the slot being of such a height and width that one end of each of a plurality of stockings hung upon said arms may be passed through the slot from the rear of the panel and be exhibited in front of the panel.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification.
