VIRGINIA, A. CORPORATION OF VIR- 'TB ESTLEDB .CO'NTAINERFOR RECEIVING MANUFACTURED CIGARETTES.
Application filed June 2-1, 1924. Serial No, 721,508.
To all. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EWALD Koniiivnina subject of thcGerinan Republic, and resident of Ni". 37,
Free State of Saxony, Gern'ian Republic, haveinvented a new. and useful Improvenientin Trestles or Containers for Receiw ing; Manufactured Cigarettes, of which the 1 following is a specification.
The present invention has for its object a filling-device. for cigarette-machines ar ranged with a cigarette-trestle or container moved along for receiving the cigarettes .inann lactured. The novelty of said fillingdevice consists. mainly in that the trestle or container is positively moved along in interruptions in, accordance with the thickness 01 the cigarettes to be manufactured .and in such a manner that the cigarettes are inserted or supplied in series into the trestle or container. The trestles or con- .tainers to be filled or supphed with cigaf rettes are arranged at an acute angle to the endless band supplying them in such a man nor that the cigarettes supplied by said endless band are left to. iil11'llSQlV6S,1 in other words, inserted in series above each other into the trestle positively moved along. A,
conveyor-slide inaybe arranged between the endless band supplying the cigarettes and the trestle or conta ner .to be filled, said i slide working in such a manner that it receivesa series of cigarettes and. said. series supplied into. the trestle or container in the shape ot a full series of cigarettes.
The supplying apparatus mentioned abovecan be modified in such a inanner .that
a second endless band consisting of narrow lmnds, vi.res orthe like is combined with or arranged.between the endless hand supplying the cigarettes and the'trestlc or container to be tilled with cigarettes. This second endless band co-acts together with a slide formed as a rag and inoved, on the one hand, vertically, and, on the other hand, horizontally in the direction of movement of the endless band andtransvei'sally to said direction in such a manner that the slide lifts the cigarettes resting on the narrow bands, wires or the like and delivers the.
rowsor series of cigarettes into a trestle or Borsbergstrasse, in Dresden,
screw-spindle e guide-way 0 and canteinporarily. be re tated in any suitable manner, so for i11 container during the insertion of the slide mentioned. qThe object of the present invention is represented in the thawings tillllQXeCltO the description. 1 e
Figs. 1 and 2 represent in front elevation the iillingdevice for the trestles or containers connected with a cigarette-machine, said ti'cstles or containers being filled with diiierent quantities of cigarettes. Fig. 3 shows partott a side elevation of the wall of a container represented in Fig; 1. Figs.
4 and 5 represent in, longitudinal views two positions of the feeding-device of the trestlcs or containers.
Figs. 6, '7 and 8 show in various positions the supply-slide receiving the cigarettes intended to be introduced into the trestle or container. Figs. 9 and 10 area detailed arrangement for disengaging the projection ornose iisuallyholding the series of cigarettes resting ontheir support prior to their insertion into the trestleor container. Figs. 11,12 and 13 represent in plan and on a larger scale various modifications of the supporting or conveyor-handy Figs 1% to 18 show in longitudinal and transversal views a modified. form of theapparatus "for conveying the cigarettes in rows into the trestle or container, Figs. ,19 and 20 show another arrangement for conveying the cigarettes placed in rows by asupport or,
conveyor formed of endless wires an'dnc tuated to be moved in a horizontal plane and in front of thelongitudinal side of the trestle or container 1 10111 which position the cigarette rows are conveyed by grate-like supports into the container. I
a, Figs. 1 and 2, isthc endless band conveyinp, the cigarettes inanii'liactured in the machine to the trestles Ol' containers Z)- ivhich rest on an oblique guide-way c and are to he filled with said cigarettes. A 18. arranged below the stance by a drive 0,. arranged in the upper part of the trestle-frame. A stop f fastened to the front wall of each of as trestles or containers projects into the thread of the screw spindle c in such a inanneiythat during the temporary rotary-movement of the screw-spindle e the trestle or container Z) is positively moved along for a defined length equal, for instance, to the thickness of a single cigarette. A longitudinal slot arranged within the guide-way 0 serves to guide the stop The length of the thread of the screw spindle a can be such that after the filling of a trestle or container with cigarettes, the stop fastened to said trestle is released, whereupon the trestle newly to be tilled and resting on the trestle filled already with cigarettes is engaged with its nose 7 by the thread of the spindle c and is connected by its lower wall to the endless conveyor band a, Fig. 2.
The lower part of the guide-way 0 is formed as a hinged bottom Fig. 1, the closed-position of which can be ensured by a locking-device 71 On placing the filled trestle onto the bottom 5/, the latter can be opened after releasingthe locl-zing-device 7L, viz, brought into the horizontal position shown in Fig. 1. The filled trestle or container is removed and the bottom 9 can be returned to its closed position in any suitable manner.
For the purpose of permanently adjust ing the position of the stop f of one trestle or container in front of the front end 01 beginning of the thread of the screw-spindle and ensuring, after having lilled one trestle or container with cigarettes, the positive movement of a length equal to the thiclc ness of the neigg'hlmnred walls of the trestles situated one above another, the spindle 0 can, on disengaging or releasing; a trestle filled with cigarettes. additionally be rotated by the screw-spindle by means of the mechanism represented by way of example in Figs. l and 5. The stop moved togctl'ier with the screw-spindle 6 arranged on the trestle or container Z) takes. during; the lower part of its movement, with it the lever i and releases it again after the stop f has left the screw-spindle e. The forward extremity of the lever i is so shaped that a certain period will elapse between the release of the stop 7 from the screw-spindle e and the release of the lever'i from the stop 7, said period being so measured that the lever 71 can move back at the end of the periodical rotation ot' the screw-spindle. By pressing down the lever z the mechanism Z is wound up which is in connection with the screwspindle (3 through the tooth-wheels m and a clutch not shown in the drawing, for the rotation of the spindle mentioned in one di rection. During the backward movement of the lever 2' an additional rotary movement of the spindle e is obtained by the mechanism Z in such a manner that the stop stands in front of the front end or beginning of the thread and the trestles or containers are moved along in such a manner that the lower wall (Z of the trestle or container meets the endless conveyor band and the cigarettes left to themselves are inserted into the trestle or container in rows or series during the positive longitudinal movement of said trestle or container.
According to the forms of constructum represented in Figs. 6to 8 a supply-slide is arranged between the endless band a con veying the cigarettes and the trestle or container b, said slide serving to receive the cigarettes delivered by the endless band (1/ and to introduce or supply the cigarettes resting on the supply-slide in the shape of a complete series into the trestle or container. Said supply-slide can be formed by a band 16 of linen, steelplate or the like and tastened by one of its extremities to a drum 1) being under spring-pressure. The forward extremity of the slide mentioned is connected by a small projection 10 to a suitably arranged lever-mechanism. The lat ter may consist of two levers e0 10 the upper ends of which are bifurcated and act on lateral pins arranged on the projection 20, so that on the swinging movement of said mechanism the band t is moved from its starting position, Fig. 6, into the trestle or container Z), Fig. 7.
The band 1 is provided with the stops it, e and arranged below a guide-way a, situated between the endless band a and the trestle or container 7). said stops can be turned down and moved upward by a suitable device in such a manner that. after the introduction of: the band into the trestle or container 6, the stop it is laid down and the cigarettes resting on said hand 75 are in sorted into the trestle or container during;-
vthe removing of the band from the latter.
The aforesaid device is shown in Figs. 9 and 10 in two different positions and in connection with the other parts of the trestle or container. The stop a is fastened to a shaft 1& projecting above both longitudinal walls of the trestle. Two wheels a fastened on both extremities of said shaft are in engagement with two racks a carrying on their lower ends the discs u". The racks a" are under spring-action and the springs tend to permanently hold the racks in their upper position so that the stop 7. is in its turned down position, Fig. 10. It it is intended to turn the stop a into its upward position (Fig. 9) two suitable moving and swinging levers a press down the rams w, whereby the wheels and their shatts carrying them are rotated and the stop is turned into its upward position (Fig. 9) and the cigarettes resting on the band are prevented from falling down into the trestle or container To enable the band if to act together with the guide-ways s the latter can be shaped Ill] the length *of the-cigarettes. The -band t consists, in this case ot strips or wires guided on bothsides ct the guide-way .9.
(Fig. 11) and provided with two stops it, o fastened to them (Fig. 8). "It is not necessary to fasten the stops a to the hand 6 so as to be turned down; Said band can also be arranged in the middle of the guide way a, Fig. 12. In this case the band tis of a width smaller than the length of the cigarettes and the gnide ways s are formed as a frame in the middle opening; of which runs theband t.
In the constructionaccording to llig. 13 said frame is triturcatedrin.such a manner that two bands 25 run between three guideways 3. h 9
It the guide-way s is in the shape of a complete surface of a width corrcsliiondingz to thelength of the cigarette, it isnprovided with slots for receiving and guiding the stopsn. Said stops are arranged to be turned down and moved in such a manner that. during the backward movement of the band 2? into its startinp JOSlillOll the sto) tax is situated below the cigarettes resting on the guideway s and on reaching said starting position is turned upward, the band 1; simultaneously receiving. the cigarettes to be inserted between the stops. In this case,
i the sto u can also be arrano'ed stationarilv, (5 i,
whereas the drum o and the guideroll o (Fig. 7) are arranged to be moved vertically and guidedin such a manner that during: the backward movement oi the band if to its starting position the stop a is situated below the guide-way 8.
Another modification of the trestle or container according,- to which a second endless band, consisting of strips, wires or the like,
is arranged betweenthe endless band supplying or conveying the cigarettes and the trestle or container to be tilled with them shown in Figs. 14 to 18 in longitudinal section and transverse section. As seen from said figures, an endless band a", consisting of strips, Wires or the like, is arranged behind} the endless band a; said second endless band operates together with a slide z termed as a rake situated in its starting position below the upper strips, wires or the like of the endless band on. lhc
slide mentioned is vertically moved in any less band, so that the parts take the position shown in Figs. 15 and 17 In this. position the slide is situated in front of the open trestle or contamer.
a connection between the container 1 For the insertion vof the cigarettes. into theltrestleor container 6, a second horizontal movement isimparted to p e e '1/ at a right angle to thedirectionot the running band.
e is a slide vertically movable which is situated in its lower position in rear of the row of cigarettes, Fig. 1'1, and. whichon the rearward movement oi the slide 3 puts the cigarettes oil the latte R toeinsert them.into
the trestle or container 6. It then the slide 11 is drawn or removed from the trestle or container Z), it ishorisontally moved. to the letthand side i.. e. in contrary tov the running movement of the endless band Said cndlessaband being at rest again, the slide 7 is lowered and then situated below the cigarettes running onto the endlessband As clearly seen from the drawings, Figs. 14 to 18, ahorizontal movement of the slide g is given not only to place it in front oi the open trestle or container but also to allow it to place itself below the cigarettes supplied on the endless band when the slide moves backwards to itsstartinp; position.
