POWER DEGLINKERING APPARATUS FOR GAS-GENERATORS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GAs'roN A. Bnonnnn, citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Brooklyn, city of New York,
in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Power Declinkering Apparatus fonGas Generators, of which the followingjis a specification.
This invention relates to a power declinkering apparatus which is particularly adapted to remove clinkers from a gas genorator furnace.
The organization of the invention comprises a reciprocating declinkering bar which is slidably supported in a pair of, guides. The declinkering bar operates through the charging opening of the roof of the generator and during its reciprocations is maintained at' times in a Vertical plane and at other times in a plane inclined to a vertical plane. The guides are pivoted in a saddle to swing in a vertical plane and the saddle in turn is pivoted to a guide ring 25 to swing in a vertical plane at right angles to the first plane. The guide ring is rotatably supported on the mouth piece of the furnace of the generator. An engine is provided which raises the declinkering bar and 30 end ofthe bar is directed against the clinkers that form in the generator and by means of its tipping and revolving functions and its adaptability to operate at different levels,

A gas generator furnace is indicated with the side wall and the roof 21 having the charging opening 22. A grate 23 has located thereon the fuel 24 and clinkers 25 are also ,indicatedin the generator. A mouth piece 26 has connected thereto an extension 27 which latter is fitted in me opening 22. A detachable projecting ring 27 is located upon the upper face of the mouthpiece 26.
An upper beam 28 has extending therefrom journal brackets 28 for the guide sheaves 29. Floor beams 30 with the flooring 31 are located over the generator.
The declink-ering apparatus comprises the guide ring designated in its'entirety by the letter A, which is rotatably supported upon the mouth piece 26. 'An oscillating saddle B is pivoted to the guidering A. A pair of bar guides G are in'turn pivoted to the oscillating saddle B and the declinkering bar D is slidably supported in the bar guides An engine E controls a wire rope F which in turn actuates the declinkering bar The guide ring A comprises the hexagonal frame of angular cross section with the vertical flange 35 and the horizontal flange 36. Journal cages 37 are formed with the flange 35 and have journaled therein the carrying rollers 38. Guide pins 39 extend from the lower face of the horizontal flange 36. A roller bracket 40 is fastened to the upper face of the horizontal flange 36 and has journaled therein the guide roller 41. A journal lug 42 is formed with the flange 36. -The saddle B comprises the U-shaped frame having the rear wall 43 and the side walls 44. Each of the latter has formed therein the T-shaped aperture 45 with the upper bearing 45?, the lower bearing 45 and the inlet and outlet passage 45. A pivot 46 extends from the rear wall 43 and is supported in a bearing formed in the ournal lug 42.
The bar guides C comprise the two longi tudinal and parallel angle irons 48, which are connected by the connecting plates 49, 50, 51 and 52. One of the angle irons 48' is extended as shown at 48 to form a protecting shield for the operator when the declinkering ban D reciprocate-s. A reinforcing plate 53 is connected to each of the angle irons 48. A pair of trunnions 54 with the shanks 55 extend from about the central portions of the angle irons 48. The said shanks extend through the said angle irons 48 and through the reinforcing plates 53 and are connected to both. A pair of angle iron guides 56 are fastened to the reinforcing plates 53.
At both the top and bottom ends of the angle irons 48 are fastened a pair of roller cages 57, that have journaled therein the side guide rollers 58 having the flanges 59. A pair of angle clips 60 are fastened at both the top and bottom ends of the angle irons 48 and each of said pair have journaled therein the rear guide roller '61.
To one of the angle irons 48 is fastened a bracket which has extending therefrom the rear operating handle 66. To the other angle iron 48 is fastened a bracket 67 similar to 65, which has extending therefrom the side operating handle '68.
To the angle irons 48 are fastened the brackets 69 which have openings 70 for the detachable locking bar 71.
The declinkering bar D is shown with the tapered striking end 72. At about the central portion of the bar D is secured a bifurcated lug 73 with the openings 7 4.
A metallic strap with a pair of members 75 has fastened to its lower end the I-plate 76 which latter is hinged to the lug 73 by means of the pin 77.
A triangular ring 78 engages the upper connecting portion of the members 75 of the strap and the ring in turn has connected thereto the hoisting rope F.
The engine E is provided with the drum 80 for the rope F. An operating handle 81 permits the engine E to be reversed so as to enable the rotations of the drum 80 to be reversed.
In Fig. 6 the lower or striking end of the bar D is shown tapered with the longitudinal cone 85. which latter consists of a bar of tool steel or other hard and strong material.
To operate the declinkering apparatus an operator controls the engine E by means of the operating handle 81 to rotate the drum 80 in opposite directions, whereby the declin-kering bar D is raised bv said engine and permitted to drop by gravitv. A second operator at the same time is stationed adjacent to the mouth piece 26 and by means of the operating handles 66 and 68 is enabled to tilt the bar D forward and backward and sideways. He is also enabled by said handles to revolve the guide ring A and thereby locate the bar D at any point of the inner cylindrical surface of the generator furnae-e to detach the clinkers 25 from the wall 20 thereof. It will be noted that by means of the engine the declinkering bar D can be operated at different levels in the furnace.
hen the deolinkering apparatus is to be removed from the generator the locking bar 71 is located in the openings 70 of the brackets 69 and then bv means of the rope F the bar D is raised. hen the lug 73 reaches the bar 71 the bar guides C will rise and with it the guide ring A will also be lifted, the trunnions 54 engaging the upper bearings 45 of the side walls 44 of the saddle B. The inlet and outlet passages 45 enable the bar guides C to be detached from the guide ring A. After the guide ring A is lifted from the mouth piece 26 the protecting ring 27 is removed.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is: i
1. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination of a rotatable guide ring, a pair of guides pivot-ally supported within the ring, a declinkering bar slid-ably located in the guides, a strap with one end thereof hinged to the bar, a guide roller journaled in the ring for said strap, and hoisting means connected to said strap.
2. In a power de'clinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination of a detachable protecting ring located upon the top face of the mouth piece of a generator, a rotatable guide ring supported on the top face of the protecting ring, a pair of guides pivotally supported within the guide ring to swing in two planes with one plane at right angles to the other plane, a reciprocating declinkering bar slidably supported. in the guides, a detachable locking bar to lock the bar to said guides, and means to raise the bar and thereby also raise the said. guides.
3. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators,.the combination of a rotatable sguide ring supported above the top face of the mouth piece of a generator, a saddle pivoted to said ring, said saddle having upper bearings and lower bearings and having an inlet and an outlet passage leading to said bearings, a pair of guides, trunnions extending from said guides adapted to engage either the said upper -or lower bearings of the said saddle, said trunnions normally bearing on the lower bearings, a declinkering bar slidably. supported in the guides, a detachable locking bar for said guides to lock the declinkeri-ng bar to said guides and hoisting means to reciprocate the decilinkering bar, when unlocked, said means also enabling the declinkering bar to hoist said guides when said locking bar is in place and the trunnions engaging the upper bearings of the saddle removing the guide ring from said mouth piece when said bar and guides are being raised.
4. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination of a rotatable guide ring, an oscillating saddle pivoted to the ring, a pair of bar guides hinged to the saddle, a declinkering bar slidably supported in said bar guides, and means to reciprcoate the bar in the guides.
5. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination of a rotatable guide ring supported above the mouth piece of a generator, a saddle having an aperture with upper bearings and lower bearings pivoted to the ring, a pair of bar guides located within the saddle, a trunnion extending from each bar guide and normally supported in the adjacent lower bearings of the saddle, a declinkering bar slidably guided in the bar guides, a lug fastened to the bar, a strap with its lower end connected to the said lug, a pair of brackets fastened to the bar guides, a detachable locking bar supported in the brackets and means to reciprocate the strap and therewith the declinkering bar in the bar guides, said lug on the declinkering bar bearing against said detachable locking bar when the declinkering bar is sufficiently raised in the bar guides when the detachable locking bar is in place,
the trunnions of the bar guides simultaneously seating in the upper bearings of the aperture of the saddle and raising the guide ring.
6. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination for the mouth piece of a generator of a detachable protecting ring located upon the upper face thereof, a guide ring, carrying rollers for the guide ring bearing upon said protecting ring, guide pins extending from said guide ring into the mouth piece, a guide roller journaled in one side of the guide ring, a saddle pivoted in the other side of the guide ring, a pair of bar guides hinged to the saddle, a pair of side guide rollers at the top end and also at the bottom end of the bar guides, a rear guide roller at the top end and also at the bottom end of the bar guides, a declinkering bar within the bar guides guided by said rollers and operating handles extending from the declinkering bar.
7. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination of a reciprocating declinkering bar and a pair of guides for the bar, each guide comprising an angle iron and a reinforcing plate, one of said angle irons extended at its upper end to form at protecting shield for the operator of the apparatus.
8. In a power declinkering apparatus for gas generators, the combination of a detachable protecting ring for the upper face of the mouth piece of a generator, a rotatable guide ring supported on the protecting ring, an oscillating saddle pivoted to: the guide ring, a pair of guides pivoted to the saddle, a declinkering bar slidably suppdrted in the guides, and an engine to reciprocate the bar.
