THE GRAFHIC coJHoYoilTHjskM PARK PLACE,N.Y.
UNITED STATES CARL B. GRAHL, OF COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SIEVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
153,563, dated July 28, 1874; application tiled June 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL BER-NHARD GRAHL, of Council Bluffs, in the county of Pottawattomie and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sieves; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a removable bottom for sieves, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a sieve embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 shows sections of sieve-bottom.
A represents the body of the sieve, construct-ed in the usual manner, with a head, a, around its upper edge, and suitable handles 1) attached thereto. The lower edge of the sievebody A is turned inward, forming a flange, d, upon which the sievebottom is to rest. This sieve-bottom is composed of a wooden hoop, B, over which the wire-cloth C is stretched and held by means of a metal band, D, passing around the hoop. The upper edge of the metal band D is turned over, forming a flange, 17, that covers the upper part of the wire-cloth around the edge. The lower edge of the metal band D may either be flush with the lower edge of the hoop B, or it may be turned in under the same. The ends of the hoop B may shown, or in any other suitable manner. The wire-cloth C is held up in the center by means of wires or rods h h crossing each other under the wire-cloth, and their ends passing through the hoop B and metal band 1), and clinched, or otherwise fastened, as desired.
The sieve-bottom thus constructed is placed in the bodyA and rests on the flange dtherein, and can be readily removed when necessary.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is
The within-described removable sieve-bottom, consisting of the wooden hoop B, wirecloth C, and metal band D, having the flange i, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of May, 1874.
CARL BERNHARD GRAHL. Witnesses:
