R. F. HALL IRON bri inal' Filed July 31, 1922 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 I ATTORNE\ WITNESS:
Patented Apr. 21, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
ROY F. HALL, OF HARRISBURG, ILLINOIS.
IRON.
Application filed July 31, 1922, Serial No. 578,746. Renewed December 12, 1924.
To all whom it only concern Be it known that I, Roy F. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Saline and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Irons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to in'iprovcments in irons, the general object of the invention being to make the iron of such shape that it can be pushed in different directions without turning it, while making use of the entire length of the iron, so that the ironing operation can be completed much quicker than in the old type of iron.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for regulating the heat of the iron.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construct-ion and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended :5 claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side View of the invention.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan view.
Figures 4 and 5 are views showing the interior construction of the iron.
In these views 1 indicates the body of the iron and 2 the handle thereof which is supported by the front and rear uprights 3 and I, the upright 4 being of yoke shape. The
* heating elements 5 are arranged in two sets, each set being connected together at the front end of the iron, as shown at 6, A ter-- minal 7 is connected with the rear end of one of the heating elements and a terminal 8 is connected with the rear end of the other heating element. A third terminal 9 is connected to a. conductor strip 10 which is connected with one of the heating elements inat 11, and with heat retaining material, as
shown at 12. The terminals are located in a socket member 13 which is carried by the top of the iron.
As shown the ironing surface is of substantially triangular shape so that any one of the three points of the iron can be used as the front thereof and no matter which point is used at the front a full ironing surface will be used, thus increasing the speed of the ironing operation.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is An iron of the class described comprising a body, a pair of heating elements in the body spaced apart, means for electrically connecting together the front ends of the elements, a terminal connected with the rear end of each element, a strip connected with the central part of one element and a terminal connected with said strip.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ROY F. HALL.
