To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. DnnANY. of Brooklyn, in the county of. Kings and State of New York have invented certain new and useful Improvements. in Brackets for Flush Tanks; and I 'do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains-to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in float valve. supporting brackets for flush tanks. 3 I The object of my invention is to provide a bracket of this character which is supported by the upper edge of the overhead flush tank and which is so constructed that the float valve can be arranged at either end of the tank, and the flush valve operating lever supported thereby so that it. is at all times arranged in the same alinement relative to the sides of the tank when the float valve is arranged at either end of the tank.
- Another object of my invention is to provide a bracket of this character in which the float valve can beso attached thereto that the supplyconnection thereof can extend upwardly along the side of thetank, or can be so attached that an overhead wa-- ter supply connection can be made in which the supply pipe is wholly within a vertical line of the flush tank so that the water suptails of structure and combination of parts,

The invention is more particularly intended for composition flush tanks wherein, in the manufacturethereof it is necessary to provide attaching means for the bracket and which allows for the adjustinent of the float valve to provide for a water connection from below or above, or to allow for either connection at either end of the tank, and at the same time providing means whereby the flush valve lever can be arringed to extend over either end of the til-I1 Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents the tank and has adjacent each end a reinforcing metal strip 2, at the top of they rear wall. I have shown one of these inetal'strips 2 arranged adjacent each end of the tank. This reinforcing strip is provided with the shoulder 3 which indicates the proper position of the bracket on the tank, and said strips are provided with screw holes for receiving the screws 5 for holding the bracket 4 to the upper edge offlthe tank. This bracket 4: as shown in the drawings comprises a flat metal plate adapted to rest upon the strip 2 and secured thereto by means of screws 5 passing through the screw openings 5. The opposite edge of the bracket is provided with a cleft 6 to receive the projection or headed member 6, carried by the front wall of the. flush tank. Fromthis structure it will be seen that the bracket necessarily has to be secured to the tank at either end at a predetermined point so that when in position at either end of the tank the flush valve operating lever assumes the proper position to properly operate the valve. By this structure, the bracket is rigidly held on the tank against vertical or lateral movement. The upper face of'the bracket 4 is provided with ears 7, in which the flush valve operating lever 8 is fulcrumed, all of which is ,well understood and needs no further description. The bracket 4 is provided in one edge with a shallow recess 9 and the deep recess 10 and in the other edge with the shallow recess 11 and the deep recess 12 arranged directly opposite the recesses 9 and 10. The inner faces of the deep recesses 10 and Bare in horizontal alinement as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. The bracket 4 is provided with the T-shaped slot 13 on one side of the recess 9' and the elongated transverse slot 14 on the opposite side of the recess. The bracket 4 is provided on one side of the recess 11 with the T-shaped slot .15 and on, the opposite side with an elongated transverse slot 16. By this construction and the construction of the float valve the same can be secured in position with the discharge pipe thereof in any of the four recesses 9,10, 11 and 12. The float valve, as indicated at 17 is provided on opposite sides with ears 18 and 19 having openings therein through which bolts 20 pass, and bymeans of which the float valve is securedto the bracket by the bolts passing through the slots 13, 14, 1'5 and 16 as will be hereinafter more fully described. The float valve 17 is provided with va water supply pipe 21 and when the float valve is arranged with the discharge pipe. 22 in the recess 10 the bolts 20 pass through the slots 15 and 16 and firmly hold the flush valve to the bracket. When it is desired to make an over head connection, the flush valve 17 is moved 'rearwardly on thebracket with the discharge pipe 22 Within the recess '9 which brings the inlet supply pipe in beyond the end of the tank and wholly hides the same, when it is desired to bring the water supply from above. This adjustment, it will be seen, does not interfer at all with the hush valve operating lever and thusthe adjustment canbe made, and the mechanic can be assured that the flush valve operating lever isin its proper position. When it is desired to put the water supply and flushvalve operating'lever at theopposite end of the tank, the bracket is moved in the position showninFigure at of the, drawings. In this view I have shown the two complete brackets and flush valves showing them in dotted and full lines to fully illustrate the four portions that the float valve can be arranged on the tank by the single bracket.

1. An interchangeable bracket for flush tanks, adapted for attachment to the upper edge of the tank adjacent either end and adapted to support a float valve, and a flush valve operating lever. l

An interchangeable bracket for flush tanks, adapted to be attached to the upper edge of the tank adjacent either end and comprising a plate having means adapted to ipivotally support the operating lever off the flush valve, and having in each of its side edges a relatively deep recess and a relatively shallow recess op'positel arranged,and a series of slots arrang'ed with bolts for clamping a fioatvalve to the plate adjacent the deep recess on one side or the shallow recess on the other side when one end of the tank and in the opposite positions when the bracket is arranged at the opposite end of the tank.
