The present invention relates to furniture construction, particularly theatre chairs and the like; and its object is, generally to provide an improved construction of that character; and more particularly, to provide a construction wherein a pair of members are united directly with each other through an intervening member; and further, to provide such a construction wherein said pair of members are of weldable metal; and further, to provide a pair of adjacent chairs having a common support between them and back or seat portions united directly with each other through openings in the support.
This and any other and more specific ob-' jects hereinafter appearing are attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the construction hereinafter particularly described in the body of this specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which: V
Figure 1 is a sectional view 01 a theatre chair construction taken on a horizontal plane corresponding to line 11 of Figures 2, 3
and 4;
Figure 2 is an elevational view of a side member of a chair back;-
- Figure 3 is a view in perspective of the upper portion of a supporting member for the backs and seats of adjacent chairs;
Figure 4 is an elevational front view of an adjacent pair of such side members and a sectional view of such a supporting member taken on line 4;& of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view of said parts taken on line 11 of Figures 2,3 and 4. 7'
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated by the drawing, a theatre chair construction is shown comprising a row of chairs disposed side by side and having upwardly extending supporting members 1 with chair seats and chair backs on their opposite sides, each member 1 thus sustaining the seats and the backs of the chairs on its opposite sides and being common to both the adjacent chairs.
These supporting members 1 are usually metal castings and have in their opposite sides upwardly extending grooves 52 with rear walls 3. Openings 4: extend through these respectively;
