Re it known that I, .li-:ssn C. EAST, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'ilraveliingl Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to traveling hinges,
and is designed primarily for use upon show` and display case doors and has for its primary object the provision, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, of a traveling hinge of a construction whereby a traveling swinging movement may be imparted to the door to which it is applied, to cause the door to move transversely of the face of the case and at. the same time to swing inwardly therefrom to assume an open position at right angles to the face of the case and at one side of the entrance thereto.
Another object of the invention is the provision, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, of ay traveling hinge having wheeled track guided supporting means as a part of its structure whereby an easier and smoother action may be obtained in shifting the door to which applied.

The invention will be. best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings foi-ming part o t this specification, with the understanding that the, invention vis not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be changed and modified so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views shown in the dra-wings a portion of a showcase is shown having the usual top l, base 2, back 3 and floor 4. The side wall 5 may be the outside wall or it may be the dividing wall for a. double case. Running from the front to the rear of the case upon the step 6 and also upon the under side of the top l above the step are parallelV tracks l() of T-shaped cross section secured in position by the screws 11 which are passed through the cross heads of the members which form the flanges of the track. As will be clearly seen in vFigure 1 these tracks 10 are in superposed relation one to theother.
The door S'carries a pairof the hinges embodying this invention, one at the upper side and the other at the lower, these hinges being in superposcd relation, and except for the fact that the hinges are one upright and the other inverted,'they are exactly alike in structure and therefore the cli-iscript-ion of one only will be suflicient.
It is thought that a clearer understanding of the structure of the hinge vwillbe had if attention is given to Figure 6 of the drawings. The roller bearing is held in position, and the Wheel is held upon the shaft 46 by means of a combined securing nut and gland element 48. This securing nieniber 48 comprises a head having an annular peripherally threaded flange 49 which engages in the hub of thewheel and the roller bearing 47 is located within the annular flange 49 and held in position on the shaft 46 thereby. The outer end of the member 48 has a concentric threaded passage therethrough for engagement with the end of the shaft 46 to retain the wheel 44 thereon. Although the same has not been shown in the drawings it is desired that the bearing structure shown in conjunction with the roller 44 be also incorporated in the rollerv 41, in order that the action of the device may be noiseless and easy.
A roller member is located upon the floor 4 adjacent the opening of the case and engages the inner face of the door 8 when the same is in closed position, as shown in Figure 3.
In action the swinging" means embodying this invention operates as follows: Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, where the door is shown in open position, when it is desired to close the door 8 of the case, the same is moved toward the -front and at the same time swung across-the front of the case until the leading edge of the door abuts the jamb of the opening 7 upon the side of the case opposite the hinge. This causes the rollers 41 and 44 to move along the track 10. At the same time that this forward movement- ,is started the forward or preceding end of the doors is swung across'the front of the casethus causing' the roller 36 to advance in the slot'27 of the angled bar, at the same time the leaves 15 and 21 of the double hinge 16 begin to swing at their respective ends of the intermediate plate 17 and the rear end of the plate 12 moves away from the plate 17 and this action is continued until the roller 3G reaches the forwardend of the slot 27 whereupon the door 8 will be positioned across the front ofthe case and the central plate portion 17 of the double hinge 16 will assume a position across'theangle formed between the door and the side of the case as is clearly shown'in Figure 3'. In this position the plate 17 actsas a brace for the door 8 preventing it from being moved further.
