UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL L. LATTA, ()F LIGONIER, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-WORKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,091, dated July 14, 1874; application filed February 28, 1874.
F is a faucet to allow the escape of liquid squeezed from the butter placed in one end at the bottom of cylinder, and extending through but not beyond the head. G is a sliding gate placed 011 the inside of head, and shaped so as to exactly close the inner and open end of faucet. This is connected with an outer slide, as shown in Figure 3, the two moved preferably in an oblique direction by means of a slot in the head.
If this inside gate is not used the faucet V quickly becomes plugged up with butter.
In order that the liquid pressed from the butter may flow off freely from the butterworking cylinder, I use a tilting supportingframe, 13, actuated by a lever, H, that is pivoted at the front end in a vertical bar of frame and fnlcrumed on an independent post, I, which passes through the guide-bar. Attached to the same guide-bar and to the cylinder is an upright, having a notch in which the lever may be securely fastened while not holding up the apparatus.
What I claim is- I 1. The combination with an ordinary faucet, F, of an auxiliary inside sliding gate, G, operated as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with the tilting butterworker-support-ing frame B, of the lever H, and fulcrum-post I, arranged as and for the purpose specified.
SAMUEL L. LATTA.
