UNITED STATES PATENT GEETCE.
VILLIAM E. KINERT, OF BLUFFTON, INDIANA.
BARREL-SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,370. dated October 5, 1886.
Application filed June 30, 1886. Serial No. 206,729.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. KINERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bluffton, in the county of Veils and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barrel-Swings, of which the following is a specification. i
My invention relates to an improvement in barrel-swings adapted to support4 the barrel under the counter, out of the way, and permit the same to be swung outwardly therefrom when it is desired to withdraw the contents of the barrel; and it consists in the pcf euliar construction and combination of devices, that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a barrel-swing embodying my improvement. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line .t x of Fig. 3.
A represents a vertical spindle or standard, which is provided at its lower end with a plate, B, by means of which the said standard-may be secured firmly to the iioor under the counter of a store or warehouse. A collar, C, slides on the spindle A, and is provided with a set-screw, D, by means of which the collar may be secured to the spindle at any desired vertical adjustment.
E represents a rest or support which is provided with a central opening to receive the upper end of the spindle A. This rest is thus pivoted on the said spindle, and is provided on one side with projecting arms e, having recesses to receive the flange of the barrel below the bottom thereof. From the opposite side of the rest extends au arm, e', which is provided with a vertical opening or slot, e2.
F represents a vertical sliding bar, the lower end of which enters the opening` e2. To the upper end of the bar'F is attached a horizontal arm, G, which is provided near its outer end, on its under side, with a series of ratchetteeth, g. Through the center of the arm G, immediately over the center of the spindle A, is made an opening, g.
H represents a plate or casting, which is provided on its under side with a depending the arm G, and exactly above the spindle A, f
so as to pivot the arm G to the under side of the counter immediately over the pivot ofthe rest E. l
I represents a sliding catch orfdog, which is provided with an opening, i, to receive the outer end of the armG. The lower side of this opening is inclined, as at i, thereby forming a sharpened edge adapted to engage with either of the series of ratchet-teeth g. From the lower end of the dog I extends a ange or lip, 2, which projects toward the rear end of the arm G. The barrel to' be supported upon the swing has one edge of its lower side placed upon the rest E, and the dog I is-caused to engage with the upper inner flanged head of the barrel in the manner well known.
It will be readily understood from the foregoing description that the barrel is thus supported in a vertically-pivoted frame, whereby the barrel may be swung outwardly from under the counter when it is desired to draw liquid therefrom, and moved inwardly under the counter, out of the way. By making the collar C adjustable on the spindle A, and adapting the bar F to slide up and down in the slot El of the support E, the apparatus may be adjusted vertically, so as to adapt it to lita barrel of any size.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. In combination with the spindle YYALthe barrel-rest E, pivoted thereon, the collar @,fr adjusting the rest vertically, the plate H, having stud or pivot l1., the arm G, pivoted on the stud, and the har F, connecting the arm G and barrel-rest on one side of their pivot-points, asset forth.
2. In combination with the pivoted barrelrest E, the pivoted arm G, located above the bairGl-rest,`and the dog or detent I, sliding on the arm G and adapted to'be held at various points of said arm, as set forth. y
3. In combination with the pivoted barrelrest E, the pivoted arm G above the barrelrest and carrying the dog'or detent, vand the ICO arm F, connecting the arm G and barrel-rest on one .eide of the pivot-points thereof, as set forth.
4. The combination of the pivoted barrel! rest, having the opening e2, and the pivoted arm G above the bar1e1-rest, having the depending bar F, entering the opening e2, the barrel-rest being vertically adjustable, euh- Stantially as described. v
5. The combination, in a ba1rel-swing,of the T)ivoted arm G, having the ratchetteeth g, and
the sliding dog Lengaging with the said teeth, for the purpose set forth, substantially as leserbed.
In testimony that I elaixn the foregoing as I5 my own I have hereto affixed my signatu re in presence of two witnesses.
WM. K INERT.
