Description

March 24, 1925.
. 1,530,830 J. H. HYAMS 1 I KICK PLATE FRAME- Filed Ded. 4, 1924 Patented Mar. 24, 1925.
UNITED STATES JOHN HENRY HYAMS,
OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
KICILPLATE FRAIvIE.
i I Application filed December To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN l-IENRY IIYAMS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of the city of Chicago, in the State of Illinois, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful .Im provements in Kick-Plate Frames, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to improvements in kick plates and the objects of the invention are to provide a kick plate with an adjustable frame adapted to detachably engage with the plate and designed to be adjusted to fit any size of plate.
Further objects are to provide a kick plate of this description in which the plate can be removed for cleaning under all conditions of weather and quickly replaced thus avoiding the necessity of cleaning the plate when in position on a door or the like.
Still further objects are to provide an adj ustable and detachably mounted kick plate for doors and the like which can be kept clean under all weather conditions without inconvenience or exposure and without waste of them.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially in the combination with an ordinary kick plate for doors or the like of an adjustable frame adapted to detachably engage with the kick plate and to retain it securely in position on the door or the like.
Referring now to the drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure,
Figure 1 is a. front elevation. of my improved kick plate frame attached to a door, the kick plate being removed for purposes of clearness,
Figure 2 is an 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is an 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is an 4-4 of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 1, and a Figure 6 is a section on line 66 of Figure 3.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, A indicates a door of the ordinary construction on whichis mounted the kick plate frame 10, forming the essential feature of my invention, and comprising top and bottom sides 11 and 12 designed to teleenlarged section on line enlarged section 011 line enlarged section on line 4, 1924. Serial no. 753,999.
, scopically' engage with one anotherwhereby the frame can be adjusted longitudinally to fit any size'of kick plate 13. The frame 10 is also adjustable Vertically by means of the extensibleend pieces, 14 and 15, hinged at 16v and 17 to the bottom side 12 and provided at the top with hinged members 18 having a pin 19 therein adapted to engage with orifices 20 in the top side 11.
The ends 14 and 15, similar to the sides 11 and 12, are formed in two sections designed to telescopically engage with one another and provided with'suitable sto p members 21 to limit the travel thereof in extended position. The frame pieces are also suitably channeled to engage with and retain the kick plate 13.
For securing the frame, when adjusted on a door, I provide a plurality of orificed lugs 22 integral therewith to engagewith suitable securing means. Orificed metal plates 23 may also be used for the same purpose.
From the foregoing it will be seen that each end of the frame is free andcan be opened toplace or remove the kick plate 13 according to the usage of the door, either to the right or left, and also from both ends in the case of double doors. To take out the kick plate it is only necessary to raise the member 18 as indicated in dotted lines, Figure 6. This action disen ages the pin 19 from the orifice 20 and t e end 1415 is then swung outwardly as indicated in dotted lines Figure 3. Provision for the outward swing is made by the hinge 17. The kick plate 13 may then be removed.
With the use of my improved frame, the kick plate can be kept highly polished at all times without extension or exposure while in extremes of temperature it becomes a. great time saver by affording a simple and effective means of keeping the kick plate clean and adds to the general appearance and protection of the door.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention withinthe scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intendedthat all matter contained in the accompanying specification and claims shall be interpreted in an illustrative and not in a. limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A kick plate frame for doors or the like, Kmeans for securing the frame on a door, means for adjusting the frame to suit the size of kick plate and means -formed in the frame for detachably retaining the kick plate securely in position.
2. A kick plate frame for doors or the like comprising top and'bottom sides and ends formed in sections adapted to telescopically engage With one another whereby the frame is adjustable longitudinally and vertically, means carried by the frame for securing it to a door or the like when adjusted and means formed in the frame for detachably retaining a kick plate in position.
3. The device as claimed in claim i2 in Which the ends of the frame are hingedly connected to oneofth'e sides.
4c. The device as claimed in claim '2 in which the hinged endsof t'he'frame are provided with a pivotally mounted catch adapted to engage with the side of the frame to retain the hinged end in closed position.
In 'adevice of the character described,
comprising a plurality (if extensible sections adapted to form an a-djust-able'frame, a kick plate, channels formed in said frame adapted to detachably engage With saidplate.
'6. In a device of the character described and in combination With a kick plate for doors or the like, an extensible frame adapt- I ed to hold said plate, hingedly connected end pieces for said frame adapted to be swung horizontally;
tions to slidably engage with a plate or the like and means for securing the frame to a door or the hke.
In witness whereof 'Ihavefhereunto set my hand in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
JOHN HENRY -'HY'AMS. 'Witnesses:
WVLH. CLARK, J. J. REEVES.
