Description

i Patented Mar. 24, 1925. 1
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED E. WHITE, OF GARDNER, MASSACH.USETTSASSIGNOR T FLORENCE S-T`0VECO1VI PANY, OF GARDNER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
i ATR DISTRIBUTOR.
Application filed September 3, 1924. Serial No. 735,669.
To all fio/0m z' may concern."
Be it known that I, FRED'E. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, vand resident of Gardner, in the county of Vlloi'cester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Air Distributors, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to an air screen or distributor ofthe type usually required in oil stoves of the type using a cylindrical wick, the air for combustion feeding through the center of the distributor and passing out through perfo-rations f therein. n
The principal object of the invention is the provisionV of means which will prevent flickering of the flame with its accompanying incomplete combustion, which thereupon insures a more eliicient operation of the stove and which otherwise insures an even burning steady flame.
To this end my invention comprises a flame spreader and air distributor having a stove attaching part to which is secured a erforated annular part carrying a flame spreading cap, the interior of the device having a substantially cylindrical perforated skirt extending down well toward the bottoni of the perforated portion.
I have illustrated in the accompanying drawings one form of device as being satisfactory, although obviously many other forms will occur to those skilled in the art.
In these drawings Figure l is a side elevation of the device of my invention showing the wick and wick tube in section.
Fig. 2 is a .sectional side view of the air distributor of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the device of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the embodiment illusH tratcd I have sho-wn an air distributor having a toothed portion l adapted to be secured to the annular wick holder 2 in the usual. manner, and provided with a perforated `upper portion 3 having a shoulder 4. adapted to rest upon the upper portion of the wick 5 in the usual manner. A flame spreading cap 6 surlnounts the structure as usual. c The upper portion of the perforated part 3 is turned inwardly and is provided with an enlarged circular opening 7 concentric with the vertical axis Of the device. To
the rim of the opening 'l' is attached a cylindrical skirt 8 having perforations 9 therein. The bottom of the skirt 8 projects well down toward the bottom of the juncture `o-f the perforated portion 3 with the toothed portion 1. A right-angular ring l0 is secured between the parts l and 3 and projects upvwardly for a short distance between the skirt 8 and the perfo-rated portion 3. The ring ylOris provided with perforations on its` horizontal face, as clearly shown.
In the operation of the device it will be apparentthat in order for the air to reach the flame it must pass upwardly either through the perforations of the skirt 8, or between the skirt and the ring 10, and from thoseout through the perforations in the portion 3.
If sulicie'nt space is left between the skirt and the remainder of the device for air to feed the flame', then the skirt need not necessarily bevpe'rforated, as its chief function is to check transverse currents from affecting thelame. However, the perforations add to the effectiveness of operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is l. An air distributor for wick stoves, having an annular perforated wall and a perforated skirt depending from said wall with a right-angular ring adjacent the bottom part of the annular perforated wall and between the bottom part of the skirt and the perforated wall.'
2. An air distributor for wick stoves, having an annular perforated wall and a perforated skirt depending from said wall with a right-angular ring adjacent the bottom part of the annular perforated wall and between the bottom part of the skirt and the perforated wall, and an annular channel between the bottom of the skirt and the rightangular ring.
3. An air disliiluitor for wick stoves hav ing an annular perforated wall and a skirt depending vertically from said wall.
4;. An air distributor for wick stoves, having an annular perforated wall, and means within the confines of said wall to check air currents passing from one side of the distributor to the other comprising a perforated tube of a diameter greater than one-half the diameter of the chamber within which it is located.
5. In combination, al wick tube, a wick therein, said wick having fan exposed portion, an air distributor supported Vupon said wick, and having a perforated portionab'ove the wick 'top s1'1p1`3'lyi`ng 'air to the flame pr'oduced by the burning of 'the 'oil inthe exposed part of said wick, and perforated means to cheek air currents passing-frinfone side of said perforated portion to the other.
6. In combination, a `wick tube, a wiek therein, said wick having an exposed portion, Van air distributor having ar perforated portion above lthe top of th-e wick and supplying air foi na flame produced by burning of the oil in the exposed part of 'the wick,
` and a depending perforated skirt within the distributor to check air currents passing from one side of said perforated portion to lthe other. l
7. In combination, a wick tube, a wick therein, said wick having an exposed portion, an air distributor extending within "-th'e wick tube and having Va Vperforated portion above the top of said wick, said air distributor supplying air to an annular llame `profthe exposed part of 'the wick, from the center 'of said distributor outwardly toward the 'inside 'of the flame annulus, and a perforated skirt within the distributor and between the flame 'walls checking air currents passing from one side of the distributor to the other.
91.k An air distributor for wick stoves producing an annular flame, having a perforated portion occupying a position axiallv of and between the normal location of the flame walls, and a perforated wall between the perforated sides of the air distributor checking -air Currents passing from one side of the distributor to the other.
l0. An air distributor for Wick stoves `producing a'n annular flame, having a. perforated portion supplying air to the inside of the lflame annulus, the perforated portion 'occupying 'a position between the normal .position of the flamefwalls, and a cyflindri` cal skirt within the distributor and also between the flame walls.
l1. An air distributor for wick stoves produoing an annular flame, provided with a perforated portion supplying air to the inside of the flame annulus, and aperforated skirt within the distributor obstructing free vpassage of 'air currents from one side of the distributor to lthe other.y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
