To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR Hess a citizen of the United States, and residentof Los Angele's, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California have invented new and useful Tn'iprovements in :1. Drain, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a drain which is provided with a body adapted to be embedded in a floor or the like and having a detachable strainer head.
In the installation of drains for floors, roofs, and the like. it is common practice to embed the drain in the structure with the upper perforate surface flush with the surfare to be drained. Due to the variety of thicknesses of the walls of the structure to be drained, a drain having a fixed distance between the top and bottom thereof is not readily accommodated to a structure.
It is the primary object of this invention to provide a novel type of structure having a detachable strainer head with means to adjust the height thereof. It is another ob- Zeet of this invention to provide a drain having an outstanding waste pan for catching fluids seeping about the peripheral wall of the drain with a detachable head which may he removed for cleaning.
These objects together with other objects and corresponding accomplishments are obtained by means of the embodiment of my invention illustrated in the accompanying 'lrawing, in which:

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the body of the drain is of cup form and is indicated by i, and. in the form shown herein is provided with a trap. The lower end of the body which is cylindrical has an internally threaded nipple 5. The upper portion is enlarged as indicated by 6 .0 provide an internal shoulder for a purpose later described. Extending outwardly from the top of the body is a waste pan 7. Extending upwardly into the body is a tubular shell 8 serving as a Wall of the trap.

supporting the hood, there being a skirt ll depending therefrom and falling short of the bottom of the body. This skirt is spaced from and encircles the shell 8. The body 4, skirt l1, and shell 8 form a trap, liquid entering between the skirt and wall.
Mounted in the enlarged portion of the body is an adjusting ring 12. The upper surface is provided with a number of inclined ways indicated by 13 and serving as asupport for a detachable strainer head. The latter has a cylindrical wall 14 with ways at the bottom thereof corresponding to the inclination on the adjusting ring. In addition thereto it is provided with a vertical slot 15 to receive a pin 16 mounted in the body, the latter preventing turning of the body.
The top of the strainer head is perforate and is intended to be set flush with the floor or surface to be drained. It is obvious that by turning the ring 12, the head may be raised or lowered as indicated by the dotted line in Fig. 3. The body with the strainer head is embedded in the floor which may be of concrete plastic material of any kind or of wood. At any time that the passages be come clogged. the head may be removed by lifting the same. In order to provide for easy removal, the wall 14. of the head may be made tapering with the larger diameter at the outer end. This taper may only be a slight amount. Drains of this character are commonly embedded in cement, ceilings, or doors and the cement may close the drain opening from the pan 7. that is, the clear" anee space betwen the head and the body. By making the head removable it may be detached and these places cleaned so as to permit the operation of the same.
I have shown the body as equipped with a trap. This trap forms no part of the present invention and the structure may be built without the trap and still be within the scope of my invention.
What I claim is:

basin provided with an internal ledge and arranged for connection to -a drainage outlet, a pan outstanding from said body; and a strainer head structure comprising an adjustment ring disposed within saidbasin and resting upon said ledge,'the upper edge of said ring having indentations, and a tubular body forming a slip joint with the basin body and havingits loweredge provided with indentations corresponding to the indentations on 'said ring, said strainer head structure having a fiat grating at the top -adapted to be disposed flush withthe floor surface. a g V 2.
