IMPROVEMENT IN WALL OR BRACKET DESKS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,66 l, dated June 3f), 1874; application filed April 2e, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LoUIs A. MANCINI, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Bracket-Desk; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

This invention is in the nature of a wall or bracket desk; and the invention consists in a wall or hanging desk, constructed in themanner and for the purpose hereinafter described.

In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure l is. a front elevation of my wall or bracket desk, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of same.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures.

A represents the back of my desk, which may be made of any suitable material, and of any convenient size. To the lower part ofthe back A is suitably hinged a shelf, B, in such l manner as will permit the shelf, when folded out, to be nearly at right angles to the back A, and when folded in to be nearly parallel with said back. To. the back A are secured side and top pieces a, a, and b, which, with the bottom piece c, form a recess, which is closed when the shelt'B is folded in it. Within this recess may be arranged suitable racks, d and c,for envelopes and paper, and through the top b is formed an opening, j', through which letters, &c., may be dropped, and received within a boX, E, within the recess before mentioned. In fact, any and all the coneye g.

veniences usually pertaining to a desk maybe fitted within this recess.

If desired, an adjustable notice, showing when the owner of the desk is in or out, may be placed over the shelf B, or a calendar may be fitted, or any similar device be applied.

The wall or bracket desk being constructed as I have described, it is suspended from the wall by a nail or hook entering through the In offices occupied by several persons a wall or bracket desk constructed substantially as herein recited will be found extremely useful, while it will afford all the conveniences for any ordinary business; yet at the same time it will occupy an inappreciable amount of space, it having iio legs or other supports, and when closed oi'ering no further obstruction than a picture on the wall; and it will also be found valuable in hallways, for on it orders, Src., may be written and deposited for the owner, and, also, advertise the fact of the presence or absence of the owner from his ofcein the upper part of the buildin Having now described my invention, what I claim as'new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A wall or bracket desk provided with a folding writing-shelf, compartments for writing materials, a letter-bok,` and indicator, constructed and arranged substantially as described.
