M. J. MECHLING w TROLLEY OR FEED WIRE ANCHOR FOR MINES Filed May 2, 1923 Patented Feb. 17, 1925..
UNITED STATES MONROE J. MECHLNG', Oli BUN GLEN, OHIO.
TROLLEY OR FEED WIRE ANCI-IOR FOR MINES.
Application filed May 2, 1923.
To ZZ whom, t 12mg/ concern.'
Be it known that I, Mormon J. Mirorrnme, citizen of the United States, residing at Dun Glen, in the county ot Jelterson and tltate of Ohio, have. invented certain new and useful linprovenients .in '.lrolley or' Feed lllire anchors ior Mines, oit which the tollowing is a specification.
rThis invention relates to an improved .rolley or 'Feed Wire anchor Ytor niines and seeks, ainoi'ig other objects, to provide a siniple and cliicient device which may be readily embedded in the root' of a. n'iine for anchoring the end ot' a trolley wire or the like. i
rThe invention seeks, as a further object, to provide a device 'which Will be constructed to e'liiectually withstand the pulling strain ot.' the trolley ivire.
And the invention seeks. as a still turther object, to provide a device which, when en'ibedded in the root or a mine, will be pri-'vented troni dropping down.
Other and incidental objects will appear' liereinailter.
.ln the drawings:
Figure i is a side elevation showing my improved anchor in use Figure 2 is a Jront elevation ot the device. and
l*1 igure Si is a 'fragmentary side elevation showing a slight niodiiication of the invention..
ln carrying the invention into ellect, l employ a preterably cylindrical shank l() tapered toward its upper end and upset to detine a preferably dat 'forwardly overhanging spur ll. Near its lower end, the shank is lfn'ovidi-d with an annular stop shoulder lil and, as will he observed. the spur ll lies "within the diameter ot the shank at the upper 'tace ot said shoulder, Formed on the shanli: at its lower extremity is a rearwardly directed head in the nature of a bool: lf3 proviilcd with ay slot or opening 141 entering through thi` 'Front tace oiE the head. Formed en the head in spaced relation to the shank is an innvardly and reari` ardly divergent bracing leg l5 lying in a plane with. the shanl and provided ivitl a flat end tace in a plane with. the upper tace ot the shoulder l2.
ln use, a vertical bore is 'termed in the roof ot the naine to accommodate the shank Serial No. 636,276.
l0 when, as suggested in Figure l of the drawings, the shank is inserted into said bore until the stop shoulder l2 strikes the root. the head or hook 13 being, ot course, faced Way troni the direction ot pull ot the trolley Wire or feed Wire to be anchored. llllicn the shoulder l2 is thus seated against the root ci the niine, the leg l5 will, as will be seen, be caused to coincidently engage the mine root' in the rear ot the shank for bracing and supporting the shank While the spar il at the upper end of the Shank Will sinh into the Wall of the bore in the mine root 'tor securiniT the device in place. Thus, a trolley Wire or `feed Wire may be engaged with the head or hook 13 to be anchored by the device and. it desired9 a turn buckle, as conventicnallyY illustrated in dotted lines aty 1G, may be employed 'for' connecting the trolley Wire or feed Wire with the device? so that said turn buckle may be adjusted for tensioning the Wire. As will be perceived, the leg l5 of the device will rigidly brace the shank` l0 against the rearward strain ol the Wire so that the device will thus brovide a secure and firm anchor' :for the Wire.
ln Figure 3 of the drawings, l have illustrated a slight inoditication of the invention which is' practically identical with the preifcrred embodiment with the exception that the shank o'f the device, indicated at 10', is 'tornied at its lower end with a rearwardly directed head in the nat-nre ot an eye i7, said head or eye carrying a rearwardly di rested leg i8 corresponding to the leg 15 and being provided with a central opening i9.
Having thus described what is claimed as new is:
ln overhead anchor for mine trolley wires consisting of a shank to be inserted in a bore in the root of the mine and having a stop shoulder intermediate its ends to abut the root.J the shank above said shoulder delining` a longitudinal spur adapted to enihed itself in the wall ot the bore.y a head at the lower end ot the shank having an opening therethrough to be engaged by the trolley ivirc terminal. and a bracing leg rising troni the head in divergent relation to the shanlr and abutting` the rootI in the plane of the stop shoulder.
ln testimony whereof I ailiX my signature.
