LORENZ, citizens `of the United States, and 'residents :of thecity of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, State of "Wisconsin, `have invented certain new and useful Tinproveinents `in Liquid- Fuel Reservoirs, .of which the following Ais Yl`he improvements relate uto reservoirs for burners employing a 'liquid hydrocarbon fuel, and more particularly reservoirs of the 'well`kiiown student `lamp.type, in wl'iich there isan upper tank, with ,its Outlet inra lowerreoeptacle, and in `which the level `of the fuel is maintained by the sealingfof the outlet of the upper tank by tlie"liquid`in the lower receptacle. In this manner the bottle is supported throughout its entire circumference, and the lower receptacle is also supported and rigidly connected with the bottle support and iii suoli a manner that the relative position of these two parts of the reservoir is always maintained. This construction and arrangement also does away with the use of upwardly extending arms or other supporting means for the up per tank extending from the lower receptacle, whether yconnected with the frame of the stove or depending entirely upon the lower receptacle for support, and substitutes new, simpler and more dependable supporting and connecting means. The supporting shields 15, l5a and 15b are semi-cylindrical in form, and are Jformed of strong sheet metal so that they will resist all shocks and strains, and will at the same time form a shield for the lower part of the glass bottle and the entire lower receptacle. If desired they may be made cylindrical. so as to extend entirely around these parts.
The supporting shields may be connected with the oil supply pipe 9, and where` they do not extend to the supporting surface of the stove should be so connected, by means ot a depending bracket 18 bolted or otherwise secured to the shield and having an aperture through which the pipe passes beore joining the lower receptacle by this construction all the other lixed parts or the stove may be assembled with the hanger 18 strung on the pipe 9, and the shield then placed in position and secured by bolting to the bracket 1S and the upturned ends of the rod 17. This not only facilitates the assembling operation but insures strength and accuracy of adjustment.
Then it is desired to connectthe lower receptacle with the frame of the stove, a bracket 19, is riveted or otherwise secured to the said receptacle and has the ends or' its two arms bolted to the end plate 2() of the stove frame. In this case open slots 21 extending from the lower end of the. shield to a point substantially coincident with the top of the bracket 19 are provided, these slots not only permitting the shield to be slipped over the bracket-s but provide an additional support and positioning means for the reservoir parts.
It will be understood that the shields 15a and 15b may if desired be made to extend to the iioor or other supporting surface of the stove, and that other changes in the details of construction may be made without departing` from the scope of the invention.
It will also be apparent that the construction herein described and shown leaves the upper edges of the receptacle or subcan entirely free from complex parts, making it easier to clean and giving it a cleaner and neater appearance, and that it gives a simpler, stronger and more positive and deture.
Vhat we claim is:
1. In combination with an upper tank or reservoir in the form of a bottle inverted in normal position and a lower receptacle in which the extremity of said bottle is received, of a supporting and positioning structure :tor the said tank and receptacle comprising a member separate from the stove itselil secured at the lower outer part of the said receptacle, extending upwardly above the same and spaced from its sides and top and having an annular portion at its upper part engaging the said bottle intermediate its top and bottom and supporting it against vertical and lateral movement bodily.
2. In the combination of specified in claim 1 the upper portion of the receptacle being disconnected from the other parts and having no extending or connecting members.
3. In the combination of parts specified in claim 1 a support for the said connectingl and supporting member comprising a, pipe extending upwardly to the lower part of the receptacle and a connection between said pipe and said member.
4:. In the combination of parts speciiied in claim 1 additional supporting means connected with the receptacle extending beyond the same and said member and adapted to be there secured to the. trame of thev stove.
