J. HoRNosTAJ LOCK Filed Feb. 10. 1923 ATTORNEY.
Patented Feb. 10, 1925.
UNITED STATES FFCE.
PATENT JOI-IAN HORNOSTAJ, F CLEVELAND, OHIO.
LOCK.
To all iti/0m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHAN HonNosTAJ,
a citizen of Ukraine, residing at Cleveland,
county of Cuyahoga, and State orn Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in locking devices, and it is the principal ohject of the invention to provide a locking device for latches or the like which is eX- tremely simple and inexpensive in its construction, and which allows a ready and convenient operation.
These and other objects of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then he specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying' drawing.'
Figure 1 is a front elevation ot a locking device constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation, partly in section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section on line le-3 ot Figure 1.
yThe locking device constructed according to my invention comprises a casing or traine to which is removably attached a frontl plate l1, by means ot screws l2 litting into correspondingly arranged holes 1S int-he side hars of the trame.
Blocks 14 a-nd 15 constitute the ends ot 35 the easing and form inner shoulders 1G and 17 so that a. chaniher 18 is created in which is slidahly disposed. a holt or lug 19 provided at one end with a recess or slot 20 closed on the outside hy a strip 21 secured tothe cuter edge ot lug 'I9 hy means ot screws 22 or the like.
The opposite end ot lug 19 is termed with lingers and 24 forming recesses 25 and 26 respectively in the edge of lug 19.
In slot 2O a pin Q7 engages rectangularly disposed. to and secured in a plate 28 having an upstanding flange 29 at its outer edge and a lower handle 30 projecting through a suitable opening in the lower wall '30 of the casing and provided on the outside ot the same with a grip 31.
Between the lug 14 and the ends of the upper and lower frame hars, a transverse channel. 32 is formed in which is slidaloly disposed a latch or loar 3S having an upper abutment 34 and a lower abutment torm ing a recess 36 with thc har The device operates as Jfollows:
Y ln the open position et' the locking de vice illustrated in YFigure 1, holt 19 is in its rearward position with its lingers 23 and Zal out ot engagement with the latch 33: it' it is now desired to lock the device, handle 30 is moved hy means ot its grip 31 towards the rear so that the upper end of plate 28 with its iiange Q9 will engage holt or lugl 19 and move the lingers 23 and 24 into engagement with the recesses 37 and BS in latch 33. The movementot handle 30 in opposite direction, will move the lingers 93 and 24; out ot the recesses 37 and 38 and allow tree movement. ot the latch 33.
lt will be clear that changes may he made in the. `general arrangement and the con struction ot the minor details ot my invention without departing from the scope and spirit there-ct.
lllhat l claim as new and desire to secure hy Letters Patent is:
casing formed with a longitudinal channel and a transverse channel communicating with the longitudinal channel at one end and opening through the side walls thereor u (u of the casing, a locking holt slidaloly mounted in the longitudinal channel and Jformed. at the end next the transverse channel with spaced lingers. a lever opening through one side wall ot the casing and having a down turned portion to rest in rear eli the locking holt. a pin carried h v and projecting 'troni said lever and seating in a slot in the locking holt. wherehy said hclt may he moved in either direction the operation et the lever` and a latch slidalily mounted in the transverse channel and termed with tingers to intcftit with the fingers ot the locking holt when the latter has heen projected Y'lo locking position. and a cover plate to directly over-lie said lockingl holt operating;4 means. locking holt, and latch` In testimony whereoic l have aflixed iny signature.
