|MPRovl-:MENT IN PUMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,594, dated June 30, 1874; application filed July 16, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. BROOKE, of the town of Union Point, Greene county, State of Georgia, have invented certain Improvements in the Handles of Hand-Pumps, by which the interior arrangements of the pump (such as plungers and Valves) are perfectly protected against the attempts of malicious persons or mischievous children dropping stones, old irons, chips, or anything into the pumps which will impede or destroy the workings of said pumps by means of the an gular S outlet or spout, and by use of a segmentshaped arc on the upper or top of the pumphandle, perfectly lling the whole slot in which the handle works, and by means of a hingejoint on which the handle works, secured to the pump-stock and handle, perfectly closing any opening into the pump without removing top of same, or by forcing an opening, and in an arrangement by which the pump-lever is prevented from rising so high as to be out of reaoh after being used, and the plunger a1- lowed to sink in the pump-barrel only to a given point.
