Description

Patented Feb. 10, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.v
STEFAN LAGO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY POCKET.
Application filed September 8, 1920. Serial No. 408,854.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, STEFAN LAGO, a citi Zen of Czechoslovakia, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Pockets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in safety-pockets, particularly of that type in which an inner pocket isprovided within an outer one, having a. separate overhanging or closing flap.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a safety-pocket of this type which is provided with elect-ric contacts` the closing of which will indicate to the wearer of the garment that an attempt is being made to rifle his pockets.
Another object of the invention is to p-rovide a pocket of this character which can be easily and quickly attached to any garment.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction, and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and shown in the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure, and in whichu Figure 1 is a fragmentary front view of a garment provided with a pocket, constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the pocket on line` 2 2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a cross-section on line 3 3 of Figure 2.
The garment 10 is provided with the usual pocket 11, for instance a. hip pocket, in which an inner partition 12 is secured for dividing said pocket into an inner pocket 12 and an outer pocket 11. To the inner wall of the hip pocket is secured a. downwardly extending fla-p 13, and a contact strip 14 is secured to the upper, inner edge of the inner pocket 12', while asimilar contact strip 15 is secured to the inner, upper edge of the Hap. In any attempt to rifle the inner pocket 12, suflicient pressure is brought to bear upon the upper end of the strip 13 to move the contacts 15 into engagement with the contact 14, to thereby close the circuit. The outer contact strip 14 is connect-ed by a lead or conductor wire 16 with o-ne pole of a small dry battery 16 carried in another pocket of the garment, while the inner contact strip 15 is connected by a lead or conductor wire 17 to the other pole of Said battery. A lamp 17 is provided in the battery circuit at a suitable place of the garment as for instance the lapel where it can easily be observed by the wearer of the garment.
From the foregoing description .it will be clear that, if for instance a` pick-pocket will try to rifie the inner pocket 12', and for this purpose raises the flap 13, a circuit will be closed over the contacts 14 and 15, the leads 16 and 17 over the lamp and the battery, and the glowing of the lamp will visibly indicate to the wearer instantly that A such an attempt is being made.
It will be clear that changes may be made in the genera-l arrangement and the construction of the minor details of my invention without deviating from the scope and spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. In a pocket of the character described the combination of an outer and an inner pocket contained therein, a flap for normally closing the upper end of the inner pocket, and contact strips secured to said flap and the inner pocket for closing a lamp and battery circuit.
2. A pocket of the class described coinprising an outer pocket, a partition in said pocket for forming an inner pocket, a flap secured to the inner wall of said pocket, a contact strip secured to the upper inner wall of said pocket directly below the point of attachment of said flap, a. second contact strip secured to the inner upper face of said flap, said first named contact in 'the path of the second contact, an electric circuit having its termina-ls at said contact strips, and means in said circuit for giving a signal when said flap is raised to obtain access to said inner pocket.
In testimony whereof I have aiixed my signature.
STEFAN LAGO.
