G. W. MOORE OPERATING CONNECTION FOR HAIR CLIPPERS AND THE LIKE Filed Oct. 28, 1922 iaten'ed lieb. li, i925..
is 'rss GEORGE W. MOORE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
OPERATING CONNECTION FOB- HAIR CLIPPEBS AND THE LIKE.
Application filed Gctober 28, 1922.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be. itknown that I, GEORGE l-V. liffoonn, a citizen of the- United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Operating Connections for I-Iair Clippers and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in operating connections for hair clippers and the like and has for its object the provision of a simple and efficient construction of this character by means of which the rotary motion produced by the. driving shaft of the hair clipper or the like may be converted into oscillatory or reciproeatory movement.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1, is a side view of a hair clipper equipped with a connection embodying` the invention.
Fig. 2, is a bottom plan view of the same with the closure plate removed,
Fig. 3, is an enlarged section taken substantially on line 3--3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4f, is a perspective view of a driving head employed in the construction.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a` suitable hollow metallic handle 5 carrying' a cutter head 6 and cooperating cutter blade 7 reciprocated by means of a` lever 8 provided with a longitudinal slot 8 and resting against the fla-t side of a worm wheel 9 mounted in the handle 5 and driven by means of a worm shaft 10 as shown.
So much of the construction of said invention constitutes no part of my present invention except in so far as the same cooperates with the parts to be present-ly described.
The worm wheel 9 is made of composition material such as bakelite and is provided with an eccentric bearing openin' or perforation 11. A drivinghead 12 1s provided with a stem 13 adapted and arranged to proiect through the slot 8 in the lever 8 and rotatably engaging the bearing opening 11, the sides of the driving head being provided with slots 14 to embrace and slidserial no. 597,651.
ably engage the sides of the lever 8. A hardened steel rub. plate 15 is arranged against the inner side of the closure plate 16 of the handle 5 to bear against the outer 60 side of the driving head 12 and hold the same in engagement with the worm wheel 9 and the lever 8.
By this arrangement a simple and effect-ive connection is effected between the lever 8 and the worm wheel 9 whereby the rotating` motion of the latter is converted into reciprocatory motion for reciprocating the blade 7. The respective parts may be made strong and durable and readily taken apart or assembled as desired. The mere removal of the closure plate 16 releases the driving head 19. to permit of its removal.
I/Vhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having' described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination of a rotatable member having an eccentric bearing in the side thereof al lever mounted to operate across said side of said member; a driving head mounted to rotate in said bearing and slidably engaging said lever; and a rub plate bearing against said driving head and holding it in engagement with said bearing and said lever, substantially as described.
2. 'Ihe combination of a rotatable member having an eccentric bearing in a side thereof; a. slotted lever operating across said side of said member; and a driving head provided with a stem projecting through the with aA stem projecting through the slot in 110 said lever and rotatably engaging the bearing in said rotatable member7 said head bescribed.
1. The combination with a gear of a lever resting against the slide of said gea-r and longitudinally slotted, there being an eocentric bearing in said gear cooperating With said slot; a driving head having a stem projecting through the slot in said lever and rotatably engaging the bearing in said gear.
said head being slotted toembraoe the sides of said lever; and a. rub plate bearing against said driving head and holding it in engagement With said bearing and said lever, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speeieation in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
GEORGE W. MOORE.
