Description

Feb. D. M. SARKISIAN DETACHABLERING PULLEY BRACKET Filed March 5, 1923 A ZZWWM Patented Feb, 3, 1925.
-DETACHABLE BERG PULLEY BRACKET.
Application filed March i,
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that 1, Duncan M. SARKI- SIAN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Forest Hills, county of Queens, State-of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Iniproyements in Detachable Ring Pulley Brackets, of which thetollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to detachable ring p-ulleybrackets particularly adapted to be applied to curtainrods of conventional design in order to permit the association therewith of a pulley .and cord arrangement adapted to t'unct-ion asi a means for facilitating the drawing or retracting of the'curtain in an expeditious manner.
An importantobject ot the invention is to provide a device of-the character'mentioned whichis so constructed asto permit the same to, bereadily. applied. to a curtain rod of conventional design without necessitating a change or alteration in either the device itself or the rod with which it is desired to associate thesame.
A further object 0. the invention is to so construct the device that it may beapp-lied to either end Of[' '[l13 10(l depending-upon whether the, curtain operatin'g cord is to be operated from one end of the rod or the other as the case may require.
()ther objects and certain advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description when taken in connec tion with the accompanying drawings in Which- Figure 1 is a plan View of a curtain rod having my invention associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the curtain rod shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view similar to that of Figure 1, showing the pulley brackets reversed.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on line -l l of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5*5 of Figure 3.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown what I at present consider the preferred form of my invention, the nunienal 5 indicates a pair of ourtaiu rod supports having bases 6 which are adapted to be secured to a suit-able supporting structure such, for example, as a window frame, not shown. These rod su 31301178 are bent at right angles at their outer ends as shown at 7 and are provided with ferrules or sockets 8 into which are fitted op- 1923. Serial No. 6322, 188.
posite ends of a curtain rod 9, upon which are adapted to slide a plurality of curtain rings 10 provided with eyelets 1101'" other suitable means for attaching thereto a pair of depending curtains or poitieres These curtains are adapted to bedrawn or retracted through the instrumentality or a curtain operating cord 13, suitably connected to. the curtain rings 10 supporting theinnermost or n eeting margins of the curtains l2 the operation oi the curtains,lfZ throughf the 'instrumentality oi the curtain operating cord 13 being well understood by those skilled in thee-rt to which my inventionpertains.
As ameans for facilitating'theopej of the curtains through the instriuiientality of the curtain cord 131 providef a' pair of pulley supporting brackets 14 and 15 which are adapted to be readily attached to orde tached from the outer or bent portions 7 of the curtain rod supports'o'." 'Each otthese brackets comprises a yoke 16 adapted to be fitted overthe outer portion 71 it the supports as is clearly shown inlligure The yoke 16 comprises a base 17 which is provided with a heel portion 18 and carries at one end a thumb screw 19 which is adapted to be run down into tirmengagement with the outer end 7 of the support as shown in Figure a, thereby firmly locking the bracket in proper position. It will be noted in the caseoi' each bracket that the heel portion 18 and the thumb screw 19 are arranged in a plane intersecting the outer end 7 of the support 5 somewhat at one side of the axis thereof so that once the thumb screw 19 is run down into engagement with the outer end 7 of the support 5 the bracket is securely locked against displacement under all conditions. Both of the brackets ii and 15 thus far described are identical they being different however in certain particulars as will hereinafter more readily appear. The base 15 of the bracket 1 is provided with a pair of depending arms 20 and an intern'iediate depending arm 21, which arms function as supports for a shaft 22 upon which are mounted pulleys 23 over which the curtain cord 13 is adapted to operate. The bracket 15 being somewhat different in certain details from the bracket la, is provided with a depending arm 24: having a laterally disposed tinger 25 arranged in a parallel relation with respect to a similar linger 26 carried by the base 11 These lingers support a transversely disposed shaft 27 upon which is rotatably mounted a pulley 28 over which the curtain cord 13 is adapted to operate. 15y pulling one end of the curtain cord 13 the curtains 12 may be separated Whereas by pulling the other end of the curtain cord the curtains may be drawn together as shown 7 in Figure 2, as will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art to'which my invention relates. 15 positioned with respect to the curtain rod 9 as shown in Figure 2, the curtain cord 13 is adapted to be operated from the right hand side of the curtains, but should conditions be such that right hand operation is impracticable' the positionof the brackets 14- and 15 may be reversed as shown in Figure 3. This reversal is made possible with the standard form of curtain rod or curtain rod sup-port by reason of the fact that their construction is such that they may be readily detached from or attached to either of the curtain supports 5 at opposite ends of the curtain rod thus obviating the necessity of a change in construction of the brackets themselves for the curtain rod supports to meet a particular requirement.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1'. The combination with a support, of a pulley bracket comprising a yoke adapted to embrace said support, said yoke terminating at one end in a locking heel, and locking means carried by the other end of said yoke and adapted to cooperate with said heel for anchoring said bracket to said suport.
p 2. The combination with a support, of a With the brackets 14 and pulley bracket comprising a yoke adapted to embrace said support, said yoke being provided with a locking heel, and locking means adapted to cooperate with said support for anchoring said bracket thereto, said heel por* tion and locking means being disposed in a common plane passed longitudinally through. said support at one side of the axis thereof.
3. The combination with a support of a pulley bracket comprising a yoke adapted to receive said support, one end of said yoke terminating in a heel portion, and locking means carried at the opposite end of said yoke and adapted to cooperate with said heel portion for locking said bracket to said support.
4. The combination with a support, of a pulley bracket comprising a yoke adapted to receive said support, one end of said yoke terminating in a heel portion, and a screw carried at the opposite end of said yoke, said screw and heel portions being disposed in a common plane pass d longitudinally through said support at one side of the axis thereof.
5. A pulley connector for curtain rods comprising, a rigid main frame having a passage therethrough open at one side to receive a rod, and to permit said frame to be applied to said rod from the side thereof, a pulley'carried by said frame, and means for firmly securing said frame on a rod in various positions of angular and longitudinal adjustment, and against movement thereon.
In testimony whereof, I have afiixed my signature to this specification.
DICKRAN M. SABKISIAN.
