TROLLING-SPOON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27, 1913.
Applicationll'ed August 23, 1912. Serial No. 716,714.
described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a vieur in front elevation showing my invention applied; Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation; Fig. 3 is a vert-ical sectional view.
A represents a wire upon which is mounted a spring frame 1. The spring frame is preferably made angular or L-shaped and the ends are provided with openings through which the wire A extends. The frame is capable of sliding and rotary movement on the wire and is provided lwith a button 3 which is movably mounted thereon.
A spoon C, which can be made of any shape and color, is provided with a notch 4 at one end, the notch bein of greater size at its inner end and adaptec to be slid over the spring frame at the end of the spring frame which is in closest proximity to the wire A. That is, the notch et fits around the wire A,` and the spoon is then drawn along the wire until the notch 4 comes into engagement with anwend of the spring frame 1, when the spoon will leave the wire and the notch will engage the spring framethereby connecting the spoon to the spring frame. An elongated slot 5 is formed in the body of the spoon through which the button 3 protrudes and which button is turned after it has passed through the slot for fastening the spoon to the spring frame. The L- shaped frame causes the spoon to be held' .away from the wire and allows it to have free movement along the wire. The spring I frame also allows the spoon to close inward onthe wire when the sh takes hold of it so that the hooks 5 which are connected to one end of the wire A will be in a better position to hook the fish. The usual line, not shown, is connected to the other terminal of the wire A.
It will be seen from the foregoing that I can apply spoons at any time without the necessity of removing the hooks or disconnecting the line by simply turning the button and allowing the spoon to be raised from the frame and then withdrawing the notched end from the spring frame which allows the spoon to be removed and when the spoon is to be applied the notched end is first inserted overthe spring frame and then the button is passed through the elongated slot in the spoon and then turned for fastening the spoon to the spring frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let? ters Patent is- 1. In a trollingspoon,l the combinationI with a wire, of a flexible frame loosely mounted upon a wire, a spoon having a notch formed therein adapted to lit about m'ounted upon the wire, a spoon having a notch formed therein adapted to t about the flexible frame for fastening the spoon to the frame, said spoon having an elongated slot therein and a button movably mounted upon the flexible frame adapted to be passed through the slot in the spoon and then turned for fastening the spoon to lthe frame.
3. In a trolling spoon, the combination with a wire, of an L-shaped spring frame having openings therein at the ends through which the -wire extends, a spoon having a notch formed in one -end thereof adapted to engage the spring frame, said spoon having a slot formed therein, anda button on the frame adapted to pass through the slot for fastening the spoon to the frame.
4. In a trolling spoon, the combination with a wire, of a frame mounted upon the wire, and a spoon having a notch therein vfor fasteningl the spoon to the frame, said notch adapted to t about the Wire and the spoon drawn' along the Wire so that the notch passes onto and engages With the frame for connecting the spoon to the frame t and means for fastening' the spoon to the frame.
