Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANSEL MOON, OF BRISTOL, WISCONSIN.
BEDSTEAJ).
Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 15,249, dated July 1, 1856.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ANsEL MOON, of the town of Bristol, county of Kenosha, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Constructing Bedsteads, to be known and designated as the Lock-Jointed Bedstead; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description, reference being had to the letters in the annexed drawings and forming a part of this specification, to wit:
Figure l rep-resents the lock joint as together ready for use. Fig. 2 shows a view of the iron flange which forms the lock joint. Fig. 3 represents the main posts, with the screw attached, on which rests the iron flange.
In the manufacture of bedsteads I have the rails all cut with square ends, of the proper lengths desired as to length and width, and have them secured to each other by a flange of iron or other metal, as represented in Fig. l, letter A, and separately, as shown in Fig. 2. These flanges made of malleable cast iron or other metal are made in such a shape that when the rails are attached they will fit exactly to the rising posts, Fig. 3, and by dropping down said post until the center of the flange strikes the screw B, as shown in Fig. 3, thereby forming a perfect lock joint. The flange, Fig. 2, is made at right angles, and has a straight cut from the under side to half way of said flange, t0 slide on to the screw B, which is made of such dimension and size of iron or other metal as will resist the pressure of any weight naturally placed on the bedstead or that could possibly be brought to bear on the bedstead when together.
The advantage to be derived from the application o-f the foregoing mode of constructing bedsteads is its cheapness, durability, and always free from vermin, there being no mortises or tenons throughout the same.
What I claim and wish to secure by Letters Patent is- The applica-tion of this lock joint, so called, to the manufacture of bedsteads.
Dated at Kenosha, Kenosha Co., Wis., March 15, 1856.
l ANSEL MOON. Signed in presence of- JOHN M. COE, EDWARD I-I. RUDD.
