low cost and which may be readily assem' bled and yet be comparatively durable and strong.

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described 1 and claimed.

Figure 3 is a transverse section taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow.

Referring to the drawing in detail itwill be seen that 1 designates the barrel which is formed integral with or otherwise mounted on a handle 2. The barrel l is provided with the longitudinally extending bore 3 which is unobstructed at both ends and slidably mounted therein is a rod 4 terminating at one end in a head 5. The outer end of this head is notched as at` 6. An enlargement 7 is formed on the bottom of the barrel 1 and terminates a distance from the forward end thereof and is provided with a notch 8 so that an elastic band 9 may bc engaged in thc notch 7 and in the notch 6 for normally holding the rod 4 in the position shown in Figure 1.- A bore 10 extends transversely of the enlargement 7 of the barrel 1 and communicates with the bore 3 intermediate its ends so that a cocking rod 11 may be slidably mounted in the bore 10 and extend transversely of the bore 3 for holding the rod 4 in a cocked position as shown in Figure 2. The cooking rod 11 terminates at its lower end in a head 12 having a notch 13 therein for receiving an elastic band 14, which is disposed about the barrel as shown to advantage in Figurcsl and 3 and tends to hold the cookingrod 11 in the position shown in Figure 2. A pair of spaced plates 15 are disposed adjacent the handle 2 and a trigger 16 is pivoted therebetween. This trigger is formed from a single strand of wire or the like bent so as to form the two angularly extending

17 and 18 connected by a convolution or eye 19 for receiving a pin 20 extended between the ears 15. The end of the leg 17 terminates in an eye 21 engaged over the cooking rod 11 so as to be disposed between the lower portion of the enlargement 7 at the head 12. It will thus be seen that by drawing the leg 18 of the trigger 16 toward the handle 2 that the trigger will be rocked so as to pull downwardly on the cooking rod 11 and pull the same out of the bore 3 so as to release the rod 4, the elastic band 9 forcing the same to the position shown in Figure 1 so as to forcibly eject the project-ile 25.

From the above description it will be seen that this pistol possesses a very simple structure the arts of which may be readily assembled an those parts which aid most materially in the ejecting of the missile or projectile namely the elastic bands 9 and 14 may be replaced at practically no cost whatsoever to a child.

Although I have described the invention with a certain degree of particularity, it is desired to point out that. numerous changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts lmay be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its adv'antages.

` Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A toy pistol of the class described including a. barrel having a longitudinally disposed bore extended throughout its length. a rod lslidable through the bore yand provided with a head on its outer end having a notch therein, an elastic. band enga-ged in the notch and engaged with the barrel so as to normally hold said rod wholly within the barrel, a second rod slidable transversely of the barrel and its Ibore fo'r holding the first rod partially extended from the barrel in a cocked position, said second rod terminating in a head having a notch, an elastic band disposed about the barrel and engaged with llO the notch of the head of the Second rod so as to hold it normally transversely of the bo're of the barrel in the path of the first rod, a trigger pivotally mounted on the ejected from the barrel.

rod slidable `through the bore, an elastic band engaged with one end of the rod and engaged with the 'barrel so as to normally hold said rod Within the barrel, a second rod slidable transversely of the barrel and its bore for holding the first rod partiallly extended rom the barrel in `a cocked position, a second elastic band disposed about the barrel and engaged With the second rod so as to hold it normally transversely of the bore of the barrel in the path of the rod, and a trigger mounted on the pistol and engaged \With the second rod so that it may be actuated to pull said second `rod out of the bore of the barrel to release the first rod so that a projectile may be ejected from the barrel.

4. A toy pistol of theclass described includinga barrel having a longitudinally eX- tending bore therein, a rod slidable Within the bore, elastic means associated With the rod so that a projectile may be projected from t-he barrel, a second rod disposed transversely of the barrel to extend into the bore thereof and hold the first rod in la. cocked po` sition, an elastic band disposed about the barrel and engaging one end of the second rod to hold it transversely across the bore of the barrel in the path of the first rod, and

trigger means associated with the second rod whereby it may be pulled out of the bore of the barrel to release the first rod in order that the elastic means associated therewith may project a projectile from the barrel.
