To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILFRED OAKLEY Srour, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Paste Dispenser, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in dispensers, particularly for pastes, creams and other. semi-fluids.
Its object is to providea device of this n'ature, the contents of which is preserved when not in use, but at the same time is instan-tly accessible without the manipulation of detachable sealing means.
Another object is to provide an air tight dispenser including a collapsible tube and a nozzle of rubber thereon, said nozzle serving to automatically seal the tube in the absence of pressure therein and adapted to open to permit the escape of the contents of said tube under pressure.
A further object is to supply a device as above, the nozzle having the capacity of a spreader.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear in the following description, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a view partly in elevation and partly in section of a dispenser embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a similar View, the section being taken at right angles with respect to the section shown in Fig. 1 and Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the nozzle.
Reference being had to the drawings, it will be observed that my improvement includes a tube A and a nozzle The tube is of the type commonly em loyed for containing pastes and creams 0 various kinds, the same being formed of pliable metal readily collapsible to eject the contents thereof through the externall threaded neck 10, which supplies a disciarge orifice for the tube. T he nozzle B comprises a wedgeshaped head of rubber. The butt of the nozzle is formed with a recess 11 in which a nut 12 is dove-tailed, said nut being cemented in place to securely anchor the same within the nozzle. This nut 12 is designed to fit the threaded neck 10 of the tube'A and supplies a detachable connection'between the nozzle and tube. An elongated slit 13 reaching from the tip of the nozzle to the recess 11 is cut to supply a mouth in'the nozzle. The character of the rubber in said nozzle is such that the slit 13 is opened by the contents of the tube when pressure is created therein by collapsing the same. It will be understood, therefore, that by pressing upon the sides of the tube A as much or as little of the contents of the tube as may be desired can be discharged from the 'mouth of the nozzle- B. Being solid and wedge-like shape, the nozzle rovides a convenient paddle or spreader or distributing the ejected substance. The
nozzle, though elastic, is relatively stifi due to its form and permits wiping out or thinly s reading a substance as it is dispensed rom thetube in a single swee of the device. The elasticity of the nozzle B causes the slit 13 to close, when pressure from, within the tube is arrested. The selfsealing action of said slit eliminates the retention of substances within the nozzle and effectively preserves the contents of the tube, which is normally confined entirely therein.
Changes in the s ecific form of my invention, as herein isclosed, may be made within the sco e of what is claimed without departing mm the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In a dispenser, a collapsible metallic tube, an elongated nozzle of resilient rubber formed with a recess in the butt thereof and with a slit, self-sealed, extending from the tip of the nozzle to the recess, a neck on said tube through which material from the tube may be forcibly discharged, said neck being adapted to fit snugly within said recess and to fill the same, thus limiting the capacity of the nozzle to such material only as may be under pressure and in the act of being forcibly ejected through said slit,
2. A dispenser including a collapsible metallic tube, an externally threaded neck on the tube through which i the contents thereof is discharged by pressure, an elongated self-sealing nozzle of rubber having inseam a recess in the butt thereof and a slit extending from the tip of the nozzle to said 10 recess, and a nut firml dove-tailed within said recess and adapte to fit saidthreaded neck,
