FREDERICK C. SIlVIll/IGNS, OF HIGHLAND EARK, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T PIONEER SUSPENDER COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF FENNSYLVANIA.
ARMBAND.
Application led July 19, 1923. Serial No.` 652,468.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that LIFERDERICK C. Srir- MoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highland Park, in the county of Delaware, State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented a new and useful Armband, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in arm bands. The object 1s to` provide 1mproved means for securing the ends of,
Y the band together in adjustable relationship.
The invention comprises an improved fastening device or clamping slotted member, adapted to secureone end of therband permanently thereto, and between the slots at each end thereof, and arranged so that the said end and adjacent parts of the band, in combination with a part adjacent Ythe other end of the band, will entirely cover the underside of said slotted member. In this way extremely simple means are providedfor assembling the various parts, thereby forming a combination extremely light and neat in appearanceand easily adjusted.
Referrin to the drawings which illustrate, mere y by way of example, suitable embodiment of my inventionj Fig. 1 is a plan view of the complete arm band containing the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of same.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view, on an enlarged scale, of the loop member.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view.
Fig. 5 is a. similar view showing the same connected to the armband.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the clamp loop member adapted to be secured to one end of the arm band 13. is indicated b v 7. and the usual slide buckle adapted to form an adjustable loop at the other end thereof, is indicated by 15. The slide buckle 15 is of the usual form and threaded in the usual way. Slotted member 7 comprises a plate having slots 8 and 9, intermediate side wings .or formations 10, and preferably the two points 11 struck up from the underside Vand middle part of said member l'.
In assembling the parts as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, one end of band 13 is placed upon the underside of member 7, between the two slots 8 and 9 and between the two wings 10. While the band is held flat in this position the wings 10 are pressed irmly down upon the band, thus clamping the band securely `between said wings and the middle part of The special feature of the invention is this method of securing the end of the band to the member 7 without stitching, and without requiring an undue extension of the band, as for example, where simple threading is resorted to. Insuch case it is also usual to provide the end of the band or webbing with a tip to prevent raveling. In accordance with the present invention, the extreme end of the band is secured effectively between the wings 10 and the underside of the body 7 The effective pressure upon the end of the band between the wings 10 and the underside of body 7, prevents raveling and also prevents disengagement of the band from member 7 The sharp return fold of the band upon the outer side of the wings 10 as shown in Fig. 5, tends to increase the security of engagement between band 13 and member 7.
The loop 11 formed at the other end of band 13 by means of the usual adjustable slide 15 also engages with the slot of member 7 It will be observed from an inspection of Figs. 2 and 5 that the entire underside of elements 7 and 15 are covered with webbing.
As a. preferred embodiment l have shown the member 7 provided with the pins or points 11, struck up from the under-surface of said member, as shown in Fig. 3.
With this construction, when assembling,
the end of the band is laid, as above stated,
between the wings 10, and pressed down upon the points 11, that is, so that the points will be made to penetrate into the fabric of the band.
The wings 10 now being pressed down upon the fabric as above described, also tend to compress or clinch the points into the fabric as indicated in Fig. 5. These points 11v are preferably directed so as to point in the opposite direction from the natural pull of the band. This arrangement serves still further to increase the security of engagement.
What I claim is 1. In combination with a exible band, a member provided with parallel slots, one
at eaeli'end, Vand' flanking Wings intermediate the slots, the band having its'end clamped between `*said Wings and the middle part of the Slotted "member, 'folded baok overthe outer surface of the "Wings and then threaded through both slots, substantially as shown. 2. In combination with a flexible bancha member having parallel elots, one at each end, having points projecting from Vnear the middlepart thereof, adapted to reeeive the end of the band, and wing formationsflankm f ing the slotted',memberadapted' tobe perl' .manently preseed down upon the band and the pointsprojecting'into said band. Y 3. In combination With an arm band, a
member having parallel slots, ,one at each end, vand pointsI projecting from nearthe middlepart thereof, inclinedl to the planeofv Said member', and adapted to engage the end ofthevbandfwng"formationson the Sides of said member adaptedto be bent down upon the bandfand projeetijonmj'the v-band then ex- 'tended around the said j'ormations Ato cover the under Side thereof and then vthrough the Slots of said member, substantially aszshown.
4. In combination With an arm band, ag
