in assembling my improved swimming device which com rises the foregoing parts, attention is first directed to the fact that the wrist band 1 is provided with an outstanding liange in which the stiffening ring 2 is arranged and the lugs 4 on the ribs 3 are pivotally connected to the ring at a point adjacent its outer edge, the inner ends of the ribs extending slightly beyond the pivot point. From this, it will be noted that when the ribs 3 are moved to an open position as shown in Figure 2, the extended ends or the ribs will bear against the reinforced portion of the band 1 and limit the outward swinging movement of the ribs. it is preferred to have the connection between the wrist band 1 and the outwardly projecting flange of a flexible nature, wheredcvice 15 passed forward by when the through the water, the ribs 3 with the cover ing 6 and reinforced flange of the band 1 ill all fold inwardly toward that part of the person to which the device is attached, thus reducing to a minimum the resistance as the device is passed through the water in its folded position.
From the foregoing it is obvious that a swimming attachment made according to the above description, will be of great assistance to the swimmer, in that, while not in any way interfering with the free movement of his hands and feet, it will operate of its own accord, collapsing with each forward movement and opening to its extended or operative position with each backward motion. It is unquestionable that a swimmer using my swimming attachment as above described will avail himself of a much greater forward momentum by the opening of my device, thus securing for himself a larger volume of water pressure and resistance on his backward strokes.
I claim 1. A swimming device, including a band of fabric material, an outstanding flange having flexible connection with the band, a reinforcing ring carried by said flange, a plurality of ribs projecting radially from the band, means forming pivotal connection be- Attachments, of
