Description
1. GARR. A Graining Rollers.
v Patented June 23,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN GARR, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAINING-ROLLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,212, dated June 23, 12:74; application filed Aprn 16, 1874.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I7 JOHN GARR, of the city of Indianapolis7 county of Marion, State of Indiana, have invented an Improvement in @training-Rollers7 of which the following is a specification The nature of the invention consists in the construction of a graining-roller with an outside sheath or case7 composed of a sheetinetal cylinder and leather or other suitable material, so arranged that it can be put on and taken off of the body of the roller at pleasure7 substantially as hereinafter described.
Figure lis a side view of the device; 'Fig'. 2, an end View of same; Fig. 3, a sectional view of the roller.
A plain cylinder, of' sheet metal or other suitable material7 is constructed so that it will revolve around an axis, n, which attaches it to the straps d and d', and the handle e This is a vehicle to carry the combined sheaths a b. The exterior portion, b, of the sheath or case is made of leather, and engraved to imitate the grain of some kind of ornamental wood. The interior portion, a, is a plain cylinder of sheet metal. Both sheaths have their edges at o, the sheath a being cemented to the sheath b. c is a loop on one of the edges of b. There are four of these loops, so arranged that when the combined sheaths c b have been closed on the interior cylinder c, the pin h, passing through all the loops and under the edge of c, holds the sheaths a b firmly in place. As soon as the pin b is withdrawn, the coinbined shea-ths a b are free to be taken oft' from the body c, and replaced by others diiferently engraved. In this way the operator can make 011e handle and interior cylinder do for makin g as many different imitations of wood as he desires.
This device is otherwise used as any ordinary graining-roller.
I claim- 1. A grainingrroller composed of a body-eyl inder, c, sheet-metal inclosing-sheath a., and exterior leather sheath b, having an engraved surface, loops e, and pin h, all combined and arranged substantially as described.
2. In combination with a body-cylinder7 c, of a graining roller, the combined removable sheaths a b, constructed and arranged to opera-te substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing specification I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of `March7 1874.
J. CARR.
