G. D. WERNLI ET AL SANITARY FOLDING COMFORT CHAIR Filed June 2, 1925 'INVENTORS: GEO/F65 0. WERNLI, AND
WILL/AM M. WEBSTER,
A TTORNE Y.
SANITARY FQLDINGCOMFORT CHAIR.
Application filed June a,
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that we, GEORGE D. WERNLI and WILLARD M. Wnnsrna, both citizens'of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Folding Comfort Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
()ur invention relates to comfort chairs, and the objects are first, to provide a sanitary chair with a renewable chute when same is soiled; second, to construct a sanitary chair that will hold detachable side walls; third, to'provide a folding chair for comfort stations.
Further objects are to provide portable comfort chairs that are simple in construction and easy to replace the parts thereof.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 represents a perspective view of our chair with the housings removed.
Figure 2 represents a perspective view of Figure 1 when folded with the chute and housing removed. I
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view of the hanger for the said chute.
Figure 4 is a perspective view as in Figure 1, with the housing attached in profile.
Figure 5 represents a perspective view of a tapered chute for Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, the chair 1 is of apredetermined rectangular shape to suit a chute 18, and is constructed with folding legs 5, 5 and 6, the said folding legs 5 and 5 being held flush with one another on the two sides of the legs 6 by suitable pairs of bent clips 7, and are hinged together by the joints 22, the braces 10' and 11 are secured between the lower ends of the said legs 6 and 5 respectively, and the bars 8 and 9 are secured on the upper ends of the legs 5 and 6 respectively, the eyes 12, 13, 14 and 15 being secured horizontally from the outer ends of the said bars 8 and 9, and the braces 11 and 10 respectively, the seat-3 is of a flexible material and is reinforced by the bands 23 thereunder, the said seat 3 and bands .13 are secured on the bars 8 and 9 between the said legs 5 and 6, and are of a sufficient length 1923. Serial no. 543,018.
to permit the said bars 8 and 9 to span the required distance from one another, and a hole 4 being of a predetermined shape and The being provided with correspondingly spaced eyelets 16, permit the said eyelets 16 to pass over the said hooks l7, and the chute 18 GEORGE n. WERNLI Ann WILLA D M. wniasrnn, or LOS ansnrns, CAL-IFORNiA.
being formed with straight sides 19, or
tapered sides 19 and of a collapsible ma terial may be folded into packages for shipment and replacements. The frame 2 comprises a set of upright posts'20, and a set' of braces 25 are 'collapsibly connected to the upper ends of the said posts 20, the sides 24 being of a collapsible material is-hung to the rear and two sides of the said frame 2, and the doors 721 are hingedlyhung from the posts 20 on the front side of-the said frame 2,
To use the chair 1 the bars 8 and 9 are manuallyseparated from a' folded position, as shown in Figure 2, to a standing position, as shown in Figure 1, and when the said chair 1 has been set up in a standing position the chute 18 is hung vertically therev through with the open ends leading from the hole 4: to the ground, and when it is desired to provide ahousing for the chair 1, the frame 2 is erected by first dropping the lower ends of the posts 20 down through the holes 12-15 and 13.14 respectively, v
and the sides 24 and doors 21 are in turn hung around the sides of the said housing as hereinbefore described.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is: i v I 1. A sanitary folding comfort .chair of the class described comprising a folding chair supporting means, hooks secur'edto the upper inner portion of said supporting legs, eyes secured to the upper ends of said postsextending through one of said eyes at legs in vertical alinement respectively with the upper end of a leg and through the eye the eyes secured to the lower ends of the below'in the lower end of a leg. 10 legs, bars secured respectively to the upper In testimony whereof we affix our signa- 4 ends of opposite legs, a collapsible comfort tures.
seat secured to said bars,'and a housing in- GEORGE D; WERNLI. eluding posts at its corners, each of which r WILLARD M. WEBSTER.
