1511 the aceompan in drawing:- Figure 1 is a e satiation oi slab enrbodying my 7 portion of a toilet bowl seatedthereon and, also, part of a soil pipe being shown projecting downwardly therefrom.
Figure 2 is a side elevation on an enlarged scale of the toilet slab shown in Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a plan View of the same.
, Figure 4 is a bottomview of part of the same, showing the opening and ring structure at the border of the same. I
Figure 5 is a sectional view of one side portion on the line 55 of Fig. 3, parts of the bowl and soil pipe also being shown.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view on the same scale as Fig. 1.
My improved toilet slab is used in the place of slabs of slate or marble such as are in common use for supporting the bowl 10 of a water-closet'on the upper face and has an opening 11 for admitting the soil pipe 12 that is connected to said bowl 10 in any proper manner, involving generally the use of putty or cement in making the joint.
The soil pipe 12 is usually in the form of a four inch pipe of lead and to provide residing at Port Emvention and the lower bolts 23 engage with the slab a support the border pontion .oif the opening ll, a ring oi brass bclzng generally mterposed between the Pip and the bodystructure of the slab. The
7 material ozt the pirpe is worked"outwardly so as to .oirerha'ng the Hing mentioned is, generally covered by the upper end portion of the ipe. The .dis- 1 arge npen ing the bowl registers with the opening in the pipe, the downwardly projecting lip provided entered into :thepipe.
In the present instance -%I provide a ring 13 that seal-Mes for .siuznilar iunctions to those mentioned, which, howewer, is in the term of a flange of. a -.co:llar structure 14: .to be described.
The slab 1,5 shown is made of metal and ion the ibowl I I i' enameled, has .aplate-like :body pent-ion i116 of rectangular ifionm, and has. extending downwardly from the portion 16 a supporting side-avail structure 17 of moderate depth. 1
The collar structure '14 is made of -a piece 025 tubing not a suitable size to admit the soil pipe and that is entered into the .open ing' 11' and headed over at :both ends so as to provide (the flange il3qat the :upper .end and. engaged with the upper iace of the body portion 16 and .a second {flange 18 at the lower end that selrnes as a holding filamge in ontact with the lower taee of said z-bqdr portion 116;.
The flange or ring 13 is of suitable size edge-s .OSE said {body It will be noted, as described, that the slab proper 15 and the collar structure 14 are combinedin the form a unitary structure and, therefore, the bolts 23 serve to connect the bowl 10 with the slab and collar structure as a whole. Also,
portion only of said slab and collar structure, and do not engage with any part of the ring structure 14 directly. e An indentation 22 may be provided in the body portion 16 of the slab 15 that-serves I the holding positioned adjacent and in front of the ing an opening opening 11. 7
Also, the under side of said indentation 22 is positioned adjacent the floor and is adapted to serve as a supporting foot for the body portion 16, particularly with plaster of Paris or putty interposed between the wall of the indentation and the floor.
The structure described being made of metal, and enameled, is adapted to be used with putty for the sealing means and the 'bed, to provide for irregularities and closing the open spaces, oily character thereof,
notwithstanding the whereas with slabs of slate or marble putty cannot be used.
The body portion 16 and side walls 17 serve to confine an air space when set upon the floor, wherefore, means are provided by the proper use of putty or plaster of Paris for sealing of the edges and the openings around the studs for confining said space and forming a dead air space between the body portion 16 and the floor.
I claim as my invention:-
1. A toilet slab for water-closets comprising a plate-like body for receiving and supporting the bowl of a water-closet and havfor the soil pipe and a metallic collar structure serving as a border for said opening, said integral flanges at'the ends for engaging with the upper and lower faces of said body for holding the collar structure in place said slab having downwardly directed supporting flanges at the border of said body, and
said body being provided with a downwardcollar structure having ly directed indentation that is adapted to cooperate with said flanges for supporting the body.
2. A toilet slab as described in claim 1, said flanges being complete and unbroken on all sides, so as to serve to enclose a space for air between the body and the floor or supporting surface.
3. A toilet slab in the form of a onepiece structure havinga body that has a zone that is adapted to serve as a seat for awater-closet bowl and is provided'with an opening for the soil pipe and that has a plain plate-like border portion that extends outwardly from said Zone, material at the edges of said border portion being turned downwardly to provide supporting flanges, and said flanges being complete, continuous, and unbroken on all sides of said border portion so as to be adapted to enclose and confine a dead air space between said body and the floor or supporting surface, said body having an indentation that extends downwardly so as to be adapted to cooperate with said flanges as means of support, and said indentation being located within said zone so as to be covered by the water-closet bowl.
4. As an article of manufacture, a toilet slab and collar combination comprising a slab structure that is made of sheet metal in the form of a plate-like body with turned edges for operating as supporting flanges, said body having an opening for the soil pipe, a plain flat ring of brass on the upper face of the border wall of said opening for receiving said soil pipe, and the material of said ring being extended through said opening and along the lower face'of said border wall for holding the ring in place.
