s. SATAKE LAUNDRY SPRAYER Filed Sept. 22, 1923 Patented Dee.. 23, 1924.
NETED STATES S-HUZO SATAKE, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
LAUNDRY SPRAYER.
Application filed September 22, 1923.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that T, SHUZO SATAKE, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Sacramento, county of Sacramento, and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Laundry Sprayers, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to liquid spraying devices for dampening laundry.
It is the principal object of the present invention to generally improve devices of the character referred to whereby to provide a simple and eiiicient portable laundry spraying device which may be easily manipulated to rapidly and evenly spray a desired quantity of liquid over laundry.
In carrying out this object, T provide a handled container fitted with a revoluble brush. This brush is located in a position so that its periphery will collect liquid from the interior of the container and spray the same on laundry when rthe brush is revolved. The container is fit-ted with a. simple operating mechanism for revolving the brush.
The invention is exemplified in the following description and illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a device embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same with parts broken away to disclose certain details of construction.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, indicates a container fitted at its rear end with a handle 11. At the front end of the container, a cylindrical brush housing 12 is formed. This housing is located at the top and front end of the container and houses a revoluble brush 14. This brush is fixed on a shaft 15 which is journaled in the ends of the housing.
The bot-tom of the brush housing 12, which is located within the container, is perforated to permit liquid to enter and to permit the bristles of the brush to dip into the liquid when the brush is revolved.
The front of the housing is formed with a longitudinal discharge opening 16 through which the brush may spray the liquid. The edges of the wall of the container at the top and bottom o-f the opening are inturned as at 17 to engage the bristles of the brush and cause them to spray the liquid collected thereon when the brush is revolved.
Serial No. 664,244.
The mechanism shown for revolving the brush includes a pivoted operating lever 18 which is carried by bearings 19 on top of the container. The end 20 of this lever is formed with a pawl 21 for engagement with ratchet teeth 22 which are formed on the face of a spur gear 23. This gear is turnable on a shaft 24 and is in mesh with a pinion 25 which is fixed on a spindle 26. This spindle is fitted with a gear 27 which when rotated will drive a gear 28 on the brush shaft through an idler gear 29. From the foregoing it is obvious that oscillation of the operating lever 18 will cause the brush to be intermittently revolved in the f direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 2.
In operation of the form of the device just described, the operator grasps the handle to intermittently depress the operating lever to rotate the brush. A spring 30 will raise the lever to normal position.
When the brush is revolved it will collect moisture in the bottom of the housing and spray the same through the opening 16. The inturned ledge 18 will aid the spraying action of the bristles of the brush.
If desired, a crank handle 31 may be removably fitted to the spindle 26 to continuously revolve the brush.
By the use of my improved device, moisture may be rapidly and evenly sprayed upon laundry to dampen the same before ironing.
T/Vhile T have shown the preferred form of my invention as known to me, T wish it understood that various changes may be made in its construction without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention,r what T claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A portable laundry sprayer comprising a container', a handle fixed at one end thereof, a cylindrical brush housing formed at the other end of the container and in communication with the same, a rotatable brush mounted in said housing, said housing being formed with a longitudinal discharge opening through which the brush may discharge liquid from the container, means formed on the housing adjacent said discharge opening for causing the bristles of the brush to spray the liquid being discharged when the brush is rotate-d, a depressibl'e lever mounted on the container adjacent the handle, and
loo
an operative connection between said lever and said brush whereby osoirllgation off Said lever will ,intermittently rotate said Vbnush.
2. A portable laundry sprayer comprising a container, a handle lined vatene end therel of, a cylindrical brush housing formed at the other end of the container and in oom- 1 munication with the same, a rotatable brush mounted in said housing, .said housing bein-g formed With a longitudinal discharge opening through Which the 'brush may discharge liquid Ifrom the containen means formed on the `housing adjacent said discharge open- ,ed .on .the vcontainer adjacent the handle, an
operative eonneetion 'between said lever and said brush whereby oscillation of said lever will intermittently rotate said brush, said operative connection comprising a ratchet Wheel, lpaWl on fthe eend of said lever engageable with said ratchet Wheel, and a train of spur -gears lconnecting said ratchet Wheel to `said brush.
