Many 0f. the botes ett/l1@ above named type and to which our invention relates7 are elaborately trimmed."inside with satin or other suitable materi'ah and outside with velveteen, velvet,I )lush or the like, and'have their outer walls .ClCQlfated withisilvei' and gold colored metal lace, while their lids are covered with shirred `material of desired color and quality and ornamented with the bust-heads ef. delle peellelleflais. lf. lli@ latter were seated on the upper Vsurface of `the box lid and Surrounded by the lufliyi` and t@ all` arrefirancee -ir: mila-ted shrred. material Vwhich risesand islocated vdireetly beneath the hands VVandarms oit'the dolls which are extended "forwardly h'oril Zontally from the elbows 0f eaeh.
To obtain and maintain'the desired'effect of presenting the bust-heads of the dolls as it they were seated on'the box lids inthe midst of lthe apparently air inflated shirred material, a considerable amount of iilling, such as cotton batting, or the like, mustbe inserted between the'boX lid andtheshirred material which elevates the latterto such Yan extent that if the bustof the doll head were mounted directly on the lid inthe midst of the shirred material7 the latter would cover the arms and hands and thus the desired eiliect in appearance would be spoiled.
The dolly heads used in the manufaeture of ornamental boxes of the class to which our invention pertains, are of the type known. as bust-heads;7 in contra-distinction to that type offdoll heads which terminate a slight distance below the juncture of the neel; and shoulders, and .have little .if auf; portion of thev bustgeonnectedthereto; i

The reference niiineral -5 V designates as a whole a'boieo'r receptacle whieliL maybe ot any desired shape butin the present inst-ance is-,shown as being of (an elongated*rectangularform; lllhisvbozg may have its outer 'wall's ornamented in any ldesired way and has its lid 6 covered with upwardly extended shirred material which materiall may be secured to the edges of the lid ,6 by means of glue or otherwise. They shirred material 7 is maintained in its elevated positiony to present the appearance ofbeingair inflated and in flutfs,V by means of filling 8 of cotton battingor other suitable material employed as a packing between the upper surfaceot' the lid 6 andthe piece oiy material which is shirred as before'statedand as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. l of the drawing. Mounted on the upper surmounted on the upper surface of the. supvated position porting block 9. The base 'or lower portion of the bust 11 has extended vertically thereiiito the upper ends of a plurality of slightly ductile wires 13 which are permanently secured in the bust in spaced relation to one another in such a way that they will register with or can be readily extended through the openings 10 in' the supporting block employed to support the doll head in an eleso that the arms 14- a'nd hands 15 may be extended forwardly just above the shirred material, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2' of the drawing. y
It will be understood that the doll head is extended throughl the shirred material 7 and the figure may have its shoulders and breast suitably draped and its head covered withv a wig of a suitable kind. This band is employed to reinforce the connections between the bust"y firmly securing the and the lid, thereby more doll head in position. By making the sup- 10 which are arranged sub-v to hold the sheet 18 at a distance that the twisted` portion of the` "upper ends in the porting block 9 of cork, which is preferably used, and by employing the flexible band 20, it is manifest that a limited degree of resiliency will be afforded to the support for the doll head, thereby reducing the liability of its breakage.
To prevent the wires 13 being pulled through the lid 6 when the same is made of cardboard, a sheet 20a of libre or any suitable 1. In a device ofthe class described, the
